free as in freeview I asume you mean.
No such thing as a free as in cost nothing, Unless someone knows better, ebay is good or from retail outlets or sky direct about £20-£25 I think

Hi

They are £20.00 and are available from SKY. They will try to sell you an upgrade for other channels etc but I stood my ground.

http://www.freesatfromsky.com/

I will probably take a few channels on subscription in due course.

Hi

I can't remember what I did. It came with instructions. I think you have to phone them to say you have it and then they activate it. Mine "came alive" a few hours later.

"did you have any problems setting it up after you received it ??"

When you receive your card you will need to ring sky 08702 404040 ? to pair your card to the sky box.

On your remote control, press services, then press 4 then press 5. This will give you the details which sky will ask for.

I'm a bit puzzled by all of this having visited the website where it says the equipment and card can only be used at the address that the equipment is installed in. I still have an old Sky box and an old card that goes with it. I am wondering if this will be enough just to get the Beeb on while I am away.

p.s. All I really want is the minumum machinary just to get BBC1 in Europe.

Puss,

Well it depends how old (Sky change the encryption/ cards every few years), but yes.

However, BBC/ITV transmit on the "spot beam" centred on the UK, so your reception of these channels will be limited by your dish size; see the diagram at the bottom of:

Well even on the smallest Maplin dish, you'll still get the Beeb and ITV over much of France. Further afield, even in Spain, you will get Sky News on the Astra southern beam, for example.

Your existing Sky digibox and card should work fine. Though for Spain, you would need to retune it for the southern beam:
