This will not help at all, in my shipping container days, custard powder proved to be very effective swept into the wooden floors, you were left with a strong vanila aroma.

Told you at the start this would not help.

take up smoking a pipe...

but if that's a step too far then you'll have to have all the fabric stuff (curtains, upholstery, headlining etc) cleaned... no problem if you have access to a wet/dry vacumm/carpet cleaner...

Hi hogan

When we were looking for our motorhome we saw a really good, low mileage, used van..it was for sale by a couple who were emigrating... we did not buy it because it looked a bit tired inside and had been smoked in. What we failed to realise at the time was that we could have swung a really good deal... the van had every extra and accessory we could have needed included in the price...but the smell/stains put us off...

Looking back we now realise that if we had washed the hard surfaces, re-upholstered it and changed the carpet ..spending maybe £1000 we would have had a real bargain.

It is the carpets and uphostlery/curtains that hold the smoke and nicotine smell...changing all the soft furnishings is really the only way to do a 100% job. But if you get it really cheap that is not such a problem.

Hi hogan

I was also going to suggest a steam cleaner but if you have a fabric covering on the walls and ceilings then its going to be a dockyard job so I would budget for replacing all the coverings as well but if you go ahead try a steam cleaner first.

I am also favourably impressed with Oust. We have just had one of our dogs contract an infected anal gland so the house was begining to poo a bit (no a lot) well antibiotics and a painful vist to the vet sorted out the problem but Oust gave us back the house and van.

If you cut an onion in half and leave it the van for some reason it absorbs smells including paint smells.

We've had two vans now that smell... but have got them soooo cheap! We are a bit drastic with our solution.... we totally replace all the soft furnishings and curtains, carpets etc... and wash all the walls down with a suitable cleaner, we find the citrus based stuff is good as it cleans well and also leaves a pleasant smell.

Great if you like the smell of decomposing onion... Laughing

You could always use Oust to get rid of the onion smell.... and leave all the windows open to get rid of the oust smell....
