Has anyone any experience with these 'mini' plug-in scart freeview receivers. Do they have to be powered by mains voltage, and will a Status mushroom type ariel pick up the digital signals?

No experience of the Scart Tye, however we do use a freeview internal set and USB notebook adpaters and they all get a good signal via the status aerial. Our looks more like a ufo than a mushroom so make sure you haven't got growth on your roof. It would be a shame if you were actually trying to get a signal via an actual mushroom!

If the scart freeview decoder is a Bush one I have just purchased one for home/motorhome use, it works off electricity so Im hoping it will work in the van, If we have hook up it should be ok but I havent tried it yet, I presume that I will need a new aerial as the one I have was £1 from local pound shop, it works ok in most areas but digital maybe not. I am hopeing that if I plug it into my invertor and my tv 12v it will work, Cant really try it till I replace aerial, The battery in the remote didnt last long, only a couple of uses, we dont use the tv in that room only around once a week as we use the middle room most of the time, and it is one of the large flat round batteries that probably cost the earth, oh well I will have to get a couple so I have a spare one, Anne

There's an idea for Trevor Baylis - "slim while watching TV!"

I have one of the scart freeview thingys fitted. Its very small about 6"x3" and just plugs in the scart socket on the back of the tele. My television man fitted it in 2 secs. He told me to ditch the status aerial because we wouldnt get a decent signal through it which was right, he got me a really small directional digital aerial (not cheap) which I mount on a pole and have attached two suckers, the type glaziers use to transport sheets of glass. The whole thing rides in the van while we are travelling and takes two minutes to erect on the side of the van when we are on site. It is giving an amazing clear signal as good as digital satelitte.

I've got two of the Bush Scart freeview adaptors. They are OK but I have found that the picture freezes when you first turn it on. Switch off and on again and everything is fine. This has nothing to do with aerial reception because the signal is very strong. On the upside they are very neat. I noticed them selling for £12 on ebay about a month ago. At that price a bargain.

thanks all for your help and replies.
Why are the status arials so naff? Is it possible to replace them with a better alternative, and what happens to any holes that are left if it is changed. Or, is there a better alternative with a similar footprint, or should that be roofprint.

I have a 10.4" integrated digital TV which works in many places with a £1 aerial from pound shop, better than the Skytronics aerial that I had on a post at the back of the van.
The dedicated digital TV aerial that came with the TV is next to useless.
Next van will have a Status directional aerial on the roof.
