Being new to motorhomes everything is new , learning things very quickly , with only having our 12 year old bessy for 3 weeks and not having a great deal of comfidenence that our dealer has seviced the van . I have a question about the gas when i turn the gas off at the bottle the guage is on the green for a full bottle but after about 4 hours its on the red I know when you turn the gas back on it goes to green nothing is on in the van so why goes the guage drop to the red do we have a gas leak

Had a similar problem on our new van, turned out to be some grit in the connection between the hose and the van connector.

hi pheonix60 ... i know absolutely nothing about gas bottles so am not qualified to answer this but do you turn the gas off at the top of the bottle?

Is the off knob between the bottle and the gauge? If so then the gauge will go red when you turn it off as there is no pressure there I would assume .. but i am only guessing! Laughing

I'd wait for the experts to arrive Very Happy

Hi

the short answer to your question is yes but that needs some expansion.
.
When you isolate your gas system the trapped gas is only at 30 or 37mbar (depending on whether you have butane or propane)
The smallest of leaks will eventually drain the system which has little capacity and show red on the guage.
I have never seen a system that held pressure indefinately, the gas test check time is usually 30mins.
Test your system using some soapy water, brush around all joints and valves including the regulator and watch for bubbles. As a previous poster suggested a dirty seat in the regulator connection can cause this.
If you find none, isolate all appliances and turn of the gas, observe the pressure guage, if it remains in the green then the leak will be at one of the appliances. Turn on each in turn and establish which it is. In my experience the cooker is the most likely suspect.
If you find a leak at a joint, try tightening a little but don't overdo. That could make it worse. Failing that loosen the joint and wrap a small piece of PTFE tape around the olive. That sometimes does the trick. If you still have a leak you may need to replace the fitting.

Sorry if that sounds a bit long winded, PM me if you have any questions or doubts.

Jim
