Booked to go to the Netherlands via Hull/Rotterdam next June.
Never seen a lot of information on Holland reported on this forum, looking on the Dutch internet sites there seem to be quite a number of sites.
Any member know what they are like, price etc??

Lovely country and very friendly people. However, not totally M/H friendly, lots of beach car parks do not allow M/Hs in them during the day, let alone overnight, so no overnite wild camping allowed.

There are lots of proper campsites which do take M/Hs so do not be put off, but just plan your days. Duinrell is an excellent place to stop at, especially if you have children (young & old!!).

We (just) managed to get into one of the Park & Ride parks in Amsterdam. There are some sites near to Amsterdeam for longer stays.

Take your bikes!!

We have been to Netherland quite a few times. Site vary, often crowded, noisy and a little too free and easy with late night noise.

We have found them in some cases very restrictive, not allowed you to drive in and out even with a car (Smart) never mind a motorhome. we have friends in Netherlands and they have warned us about lots of Eastern Europeans who are parking up lomger than allowed, operating businesses from site and generally being a pest. Watch your stuff.

We went to a small recommended site in October, booked for us by our Dutch friends, we had to park our car outside the site and walk in 400m, the showers although good were extra and it still cost €24 a night, not great value but all right.

We are going back in April with a CC rally and hopefully this will be a bit better.

We were put off Dutch sites along time ago with our caravan - great if you like a party every night next to you -- we don't so no use at all.

Peolple are friendly, if you want quiet sites and are amember of the CC look at the NCC sites, rural but nice.

Just one opinion.

I don't know what others think but I found the roads in Holland to be very busy, a lot like driving in the UK and not relaxing like France.

Hi, It really worth buying the ACSI Camping card 2007 for the time of year you are going as they have quiet a few sites in the Netherlands, and you must visit Zeeland area its really very nice and some of the bridges are something to be seen ? we stayed at Camping de Oase at Renesse.

The Netherlands is an ideal place for camping - the whole nation enjoys the outdoors and care for their environment

As some others have said friendly people, the most cycling friendy country in the world, great beaches, interesting history and will always make British people welcome.

My best places are Zeeland (south west Netherlands), Friesland & West Friesland and the Veluwe (national park central area).

We have travelled extensively in the Netherlands for over 10 years and never had a single problem with noisy campsites - in Zeeland try the Mini Camping sites similar to our own farm CL sites just great.

Go and enjoy and don't forget the bike

Thank you all for such useful information on motorhome camping in the Netherlands. Was a bit worried about the noise factor (we are both well past sell by date). Will definatly go to Zeeland area, wonder if is neccessary to book sites in advanced.

We've always thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Netherlands; first in youth hostels then hotels and now camper van.
Some sites are noisy, there is one in Amsterdam, brilliant location but gets a lot of young tenters / backpackers; there are also some lovely peaceful spots.
Roads - it's a small country [with an excellent public transport system] the south has extensive motorway network crossing the country and linking major conurbations and industrial areas, [Amsterdam - Den Hague - Rotterdam - Eindhoven - Utrecht] which is very busy, otherwise it's ok, much better than here imo.
We usually make a bee line for Delft [Delftesehout], just outside the town on bus link and you can get a train to just about anywhere.
You must go across the Afluitsdijk - and visit as many small towns as you can - Edam, Alkmaar, Gouda, Hoorn, - Friesland is peaceful.
Ohh - I feel quite travel-sick [opposite of homesick - we just don't have a word for wanderlust in English so we use the german.]

Go - you'll have a terrific time, we've only ever booked to ensure a spot for end of April - Queen's Day 30th April, the country turns into one massive street party.

Can thoroughly recommend the area of Zeeland between and around Middleburg & Vlissingen (Flushing as it used to be called) There are loads of small mini campings as they call them. The beaches in the area are amazing but tend to attract a lot of germans in the summer season. Middleburg is a beautiful old town, a church on every corner. The main centre of town is fully pedestrianised and market day is a must see if in the area. This corner of Holland is renowned for its seafood especially their Mussels which are supposed to be the very best available anywhere. As others have said the Dutch people are renowned for being friendly, they virtually all speak English fluently especially the younger generations and love to use it. Holland is quite a small country with a large population so their roads are choked especially around the larger cities. Aim to travel through the busiest parts of the country during the middle of the day when they are all at work. Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Den Haag can be a nightmare to travel through. Camp well away from these cities and use the train to visit them is best if you have to.

I live in Netherlands and I can only confirm what Freewheeler, Wiggy, Twooks and TonyHunt have said. So friendly people with a passion for camping (rumour has it that Dutch people need a special driving license if they want to drive without a caravan on the hook Wink

), a plethora of camp sites in all sizes, long sandy beaches and many pretty little towns. But also harsh restrictions against wild camping.
