I've recently purchased a van from Germany which is fitted with an Oyster 85
Digital setup with twin LNB. This one has digital receiver/positioner rather than just the positioners that I have seen on some vehicles

It has a SAT OUT which you can plug a Skybox into. the problem I have is that I positioned the satelite to Astra 2, plugged in the SkyBox, it went through the "looking for listings" routine , but has only gone up to channels below 200 ie no movies, sports, kids, news & documentaries. I'm not talking about receiving them just that there not even showing up on the EPG.

Anyone have any ideas

Confused

The output from the second LNB that feeds the SKY box should be independent of the primary one and has the ability to switch between vertical and horisontal polarisation, it could be some issue with that. The SCART input in to the Oyster is only a video in and has no control systems of any sorts. Id check that the Sky box has signal to it then on tis sigan meter, if it is OK check to see what stations are available. If not, Sky have a good help line to sort the sky box out, one thing they always seem to do is upload the latest firmware to the Sky box, you can do this your self easily enough, and then try again.

Hi Andrew
Have you tried locking onto Astra 2 with sky box turned off, then turn Oyster box off and Sky box on? Just a thought, I only have a single Lnb but have to do this and it then worked correctly.

Good luck

Steve

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

To clarify a few points:

1. The 2nd LNB is used for a separate receiver in the back of the van which I assume does not have any ability to move the dish. It just receives what channels are available on the current satellite selected.

2. The SAT OUT from the main receiver/positioner is I think just a loop through and you need the box powered up for it to work.

I've got the grandson with me today so won't have the time to look at it. But tomorrow I'm going to lock it on to Astra 2, and then do a hard reset on the Skybox which should force it to look for all available channels.

I'll let you know how I get on

Is it a Oyster Twin LNB?

I only ask, because what you have explained sounds like a single LNB.

A single LNB Oyster would only allow a pass through of either hi or lo freq, not both, and that depends on the channel the Oyster is set to.

If it is a single LNB, you would be better off putting a manual switch-over in line between the dish and the two receivers(Oyster & Sky).

With a Oyster Twin you do not need to use the sat out on the Oyster receiver, just take the second LNB output direct to dish input on the Sky box.

Link to your TV through Scart or RF if you have the inputs on your TV.

Have one channel on your TV tuned to Oyster and one tuned to Sky.

This is by far the easiest setup.

If you still struggle with epg and channels on the Sky box, check software version and update if required.

You can of course intergrate other AV equipment into the system by utilising the through-puts, but it gets more complicated.

I only say this through 11 years of owning, using and selling them!!

If you need any further help, just shout.

Kind regards

The second LNB does not ahve any ability to reposition the dish but does have the ability to change the polarisatio of the LNB, a few volts are applited to the cable to do this.

So for Sky, get the Oyster to align to the Astra 2 satalite, then go to the sky box and you should have a good signal there from the second LNB.

The out put of the Sky box plugs in to the SCART in on the oyster and if you select the AV in on the Oyster you should see the out put ont eh Sky box.

Theres some sort of firmware upgrade for the Sky box which will upload the latest firmware, (I think its holding down the frour bottons on the fron of it but the Sky help line will confirm this.)

Other than that its is quite easy.

Hope it goes well for you.

OK got it working fine now, using the method that I originally used.

Locked on to Astra 2 did a forced reset on the Skybox( hold down "backup" on the box whilst powering up) and lo and behold all of the channels are there.

The problem I originally encountered I believe was due to the fact that I swiched on the Skybox before the dish had locked on to Astra 2 properly.

Many thanks for the advice
