I have a lobster (virgin) mobile phone and a laptop. While we are away I would like to connect to the internet via the mobile phone. initially in this country but ultimately abroad. I have a USB connection and can connect the phone to the lap top. That works OK and I can download photos etc.
Logically it should be possible to connect to the internet and send messages. Has anyone done this.
Could you advise on the method and costs/
I am really interested in e-mail only bit web sites would be nice (and I suspect expensive) As the contract I am on has more free phone time than I can use a non 0800 number provider would be helpful.
there is some sort of limited access from the phone itself but it does not look very good.

I also connect to the internet using my phone. My phone is a samsung and they provide you with a drivers disc. Once this is installed it is plain sailing. Although the service is slow and can be expensive, (Depends on the package that your service provider supplies) it does mean that I have always got access to the internet if no other way is available.
It is worth contacting your supplier and asking them for the information that you need. It dose depend on weather your phone is compatable or not.

I use a Nokia N80 connected via a usb cable , i pay Orange an additional £5 per month additional to my contract which gives me unlimited off peak ( 7.00pm - - 7.00am ) all week and free unlimited use all weekend. Also if i decide to use outside these times the maximum Orange will charge me is £1.50 per day.
The handset will use 3G where available switching to GPRS in other areas, I have found the speeds when surfing to be very good ( not broadband speed ) .

Cheers Mark

many thanks for all these useful e-mails.
I am not sure that my phone will connect to the computer all I can make it do is to transfer photos and music.
Anyway lets see what can be done when a few cages are rattled at Virgin!
