Can any of you "techies" please give me some info on this please? Is it exactly what it says it it is? I presume that the pages you browse to are not "current". I see it is possible to save pages to Favourites for off line browsing.-so does this mean you don't need an internet connection to view them? (Didn't work for me!)

I also see there are free download programmes you can acces for this. What exactly can they do? And can anyone recommend any of the downloads?

No doubt you can see what I'm gettiong at- If you are out and about with your lappy & can't get a connection do the "Off line Browsing" programmes give you any advantage that you don't get if you don't have it?

A lot there I know but thanks in advace,

Using a browser you can save page-by-page for reference offline. Sometimes that is sufficient. Other times you could do with having an entire website echoed to your hard disc. You then need a program such as:
http://www.web-site-downloader.com/entire/default.aspx?pu=false
or
http://www.newprosoft.com/

However, if you try doing this with some sites, MHF being one, you'll get bounced off, partly to ease the server load, partly as an anti-piracy measure maybe.

THanks Dave-what determines the need for the extra programme? and if you don't have the extra programme how do you save for offline browsing?
And presumably the pages you download are nver really current?

"what determines the need for the extra programme? and if you don't have the extra programme how do you save for offline browsing?"

Just use File/ Save from your browser. Once you have done that for each page of a large website you have repetitive strain injury and all you have to show for it is a lot of unstructured individual pages on your hard disc. Use a "web spider" or "offline reader" to automate it and give you the same interactive & structured viewing experience offline as online.

"And presumably the pages you download are nver really current?"

Well they are current the instant you save them to your hard disc. And the automated program can update the locally stored copy, but once offline, that's the way they stay.

Also bear in mind that a site grabber will try to download the whole website, which could mean an enormous download. I dread to think how much space MHF takes up - just look at all the photos that have been uploaded. Confused

Dave

Many thanks Dave. I downloaded the above and then used it to download this web site

It means I don't have to print out all the pages! Really easy to use.
Only cost £9.00

John S- When you say "easy to use" do you mean "easy to use" Laughing
I had a look at one of the products on Google and it involved Proxy Servers and altering all sorts of settings on Advanced Internet Options-also I would have to download Java-sounded very complicated.
I don't mind nine quid if it's easy!

Hi Telbell
I can honestly say it is so easy. Just copy the web page address into the programme and you are away. Got to be simple as I can't be bovered with complicated routines. When you have done it just copy the mirrored address and paste it onto your desktop. You can even go back to the original and upgrade the site.
Have a go!!!!
