We have just returned from Christmas and New Year in Norway. I took my second set of Ski lessons in Hovden. I would love to go back and progress a little further in any of the Norwegian Resorts but the cost of traveling via Newcastle to Norway with DFDS is prohibitive. Especially as we have FREE P&O/Eurotunnel Vouchers through Tesco Deals.
So In March for my Birthday I am looking to travel to the French Alps to improve my Snow ploughing. I am really a very poor beginner so on to my Question.
Where is the best place to Ski for Beginners like me and anyone any advice as to where to stay in March??

We have just come back from skiing in France and been to two (new to us) resorts that I think would be excellent for boty beginner skliers and Motorhomers.
1. Alpe d'Huez, as recommended by Dave. Brilliant free aire in Les Bergers area within short walk of lifts, with loos, flot bleu and views over valley. By the way the other Aire at L'Eclose no longer exists.

and a super small British-run ski school where you can have lessons in small groups, I highly recommend it.

2. Montgenevre, with a great new Aire operated like a car park with entry and exit barriers, charged per day, about Ģ5 per day d/o length of stay.

the details on this are not up to date as the aire is now bigger and operated differently but the directions are the same. It will be busy in school holidays and weekends, very popular with the italians.
There is a small ski school there too not sure what it's like but here's the address

What I forgot to say that is really important is that both resorts seemed to me hifghly suited to beginners as their nursery slopes are ideal in situation and nature.

We are off somewhere snowy again in February but haven't decided where yet, this could be an option. We dabble in a bit of crosscountry/alpine skiing, are there any good x/c ski trails around Alpe D'Huez and Montgenevre that you know of?
We could then have the best of both worlds, do a bit of x/c skiing and we are also tempted to have a few lessons in downhill as well and see how we get on with it.
I think i've found the info about the aire at Montgenevre but its not clear on cc-infos about the one at Les Bergers, any more info about this one (or both) would be appreciated.

about 3 years ago and there was a x/c trail behind our hotel leading towards Montgenevre.The 2 resorts are very close together,and a short drive to Sestriere is well worth it.
