Anyone stayed in The Alsace area of France? Forums

Thought we would go to some places we have not yet visited . Thinking about the Alsace. Anyone recommend any palces to visit and campsites to stay.

I would recommend following the 'Routes Des Cretes' from Cernay over the 'Grand Ballon des Alsace, the 'Col de la Schluct' and 'Col du Bonhomme' to Ste Marie Aux Mines.

A spectacular and extremely scenic (although torturous) route over the region following a strategic WW1 supply route. Lots of campsites along the way. There are also a few aires and good wildcamping spots as well.
Gerardmer is the main town near the route with many campsites and a few aires/stoppovers.

Hi, regularly stop off at municipal site at OBERNAI, motorhome friendly, and within walking distance of a very pretty town centre. Also near the climb through magnificent pine forests to monastery of MT.ST.ODILE with viewsover the whole region. Also sstrategically placed for visits to Colmar & Strasbourg.

We stayed at Obernai last week.

If you do stay there, the top tip of the day is to follow signs for CAMPING VVF.

There are shops and bars nearby. Easy access to the A35.

It cost us 15 euros for two adults, the dog and a hard stand with electricity.

There is also a motorhome service point there for the loo, fresh water etc

If you need fresh water, take it from the service point before pitching up as not all pitches have a tap.

Spent a few days there whilst passing through. Visited both Kaysersberg and Ribeauville. Both places provide overnight parking for motorhomes for a small charge, Kaysersberg having a large "Aire" with parking and full service facilities for about 50 vans. It also has a good 'Municiple' site. Both these are within easy walking distance of this pretty touristy town. Ribeauville is equally as interesting but had a more working rather than a touristy feel to it. I think both these are on the Alsace Route du Vin which if you Google you could find more about.

Agree with Peedee about Kayserberg - have stopped at both the Aire & the municipal site. Aire can be a bit noisy with the main road passing near. The municipal site is well looked after with good size pitches by the side of teh river, easy walk in to town. A lovely area.
