Hi
The Isabella Photographer of the Year 2007 competition's overall objective is decide on who the subscribers feel is the best Photographer of The Year. Once again it is being sponsored by MHF subscriber Dawnraider. Many thanks Ken.
The rules are very simple.
It is only open to subscribers of MHFs.
The winner will be the person who accumulates the most points from five rounds.
You may enter as many photographs as you like each round but they must be seen to fit into the months subject title, if they do not they might be removed.
Each round will run for 6 weeks. Voting will then run for that round for the next two weeks. Instructions for voting will be listed at the start of each voting period.
At the end of each round's voting the most voted for photograph will be awarded 10 points down to 1 point for the tenth most voted for photograph.
The five rounds are as follows
1) My motorhome
2) The Seasons
3) Motorhoming Fun
4) My Favorite View/Landscape
5) Portrait of a Family member , A Friend, A Pet or wildlife/plant
There are no guidelines as to how you create your photograph other than a camera must have been used in its production at some point.
Trophy
The Isabella MHF Photographer Of The Year Shield is to be supplied as a joint venture between Nukeadmin and Dawnraider. We are hoping it will be a shield where the winner of each year will have his/her name engraved on it. This shield will be held by Nuke and a smaller replica given to the winner to keep. The winner will also win £100 kindly donated by Dawnraider. The winner of the photographer of the year and the photographers who win each round will get a medal next to their avatars.
Round 1 - The album for My Motorhome will appear over the next couple of days so get shooting or look out your favourite photos you might have already taken.
Good luck

I really do hope I am not being picky. How for example can I do Autumn in the Seasons section when Autumn will happen after this facet of the competition.
And if the photographer with the most accumulated points wins the prize, then presumably this will not be the best picture of the year but the best photographer of the year unlike last year. In other words if I stuck a cracker of a pic up in round two and crap in the other rounds the cracker in theory could be the best pic but would count for nothing in the end.
Sorry to be the first to stick an oar in but I can only understand simple.
p.s. Really sorry. I seem to have got out the wrong side of the bed. Did this competition slip to the best photographer of the year from best pic of the year. The reason I say this is because I would think that a semi pro or even a pro photographer on here must, unless he\she is crap win the prize because I for example need to take a thousand pics to get a lucky one that looks professional. Therefore my concern is that this is cutting out the snappers chances of success and may well end up with just those whose hobby is photography being boringly winners each time. |

Hi Pusser
I am sure you have not got out of bed the wrong side.
The impression that we got from all the comments made last year was that subscribers did not want one photograph to win the competition. The competition last year was to vote for The Photographer of The Year and this year this is still the case. In addition from each round we will have the Best Photograph, so we have the best of both worlds.
It is a completely false impression that people have that professionals are better photographers than hobby photographers. Pro's know how to earn a living from photography. EG I shoot portraits and I would expect to stand a chance of winning a competition for serious portraits however I have never taken a landscape that would compete with those that last years winner and many, many of the other subscribers entered.
Sorry Pusser but personally I do not think a "snapper" should win a Photographer of The Year competition. They might win a round with a "lucky" one but that should not then allow them to step into the limelight in front of photographers who have put a lot of effort into it over a year.
Sorry mate but thats my view. Last year was a success because when I looked at the portfolio that Texas entered it inspired me to pick up my camera and take more landscapes and that is what the competition is really all about - to congratulate the best photographer and to inspire others.

That's fine. Put like that I can understand where the thinking is coming from even thought I don't agree. But I don't mind not getting my own way but look forward to some great pics which is what it is really about. Many thanks for putting me straight. |

I wondered if you'd got sponsorship from a major awning manufacturer!
