I have just imported a Hymer 544. Registered 1992 from Germany.

Hope to get MOT and registered ASAP.

I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with.

1. What do I do with the gas? Do I just fit a UK tye regulator and gas bottle, or is some sort of conversion kit needed for different pressures?

2. I have managed to get the hob and fridge working on gas, but had no luck with the heater (Trauma). I have held the control down for over two minutes, but still no success. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your help

Welcome to Hymer motorhomeing.
I have a 1992, 660 and presume your set up is similar.
Your regulator may be the older German 50 mbar type and your appliances will be set up to run at this pressure. You can retain the old regulator or buy a new 50 mbar one if you are unhappy with it's age. New ones are available and I am sure someone will point you in the right direction soon.
You will possibly need to change the hoses from the bottles to the regulator to suit whichever bottles you decide to use. Again if you are unsure about the existing hose ages - change them even if they fit your new bottles.
The fire-
I assume you have checked that the tap on the manifold is turned on!!
If you listen carefully when you turn on your fire you should hear a ticking sound from the fires ignitor. If you don't you may just need a new battery in it .
Its in a little box at the bottom left of the fire ( after you lift off the casing ). The ticking stops when the fire is lit.
Ours is a bit fussy on the make of battery since the contacts are kind of buried in the box - I solved this by inserting a bit of foil between the contacts and the 'AA' battery.
We have found the fire hard to light if there is a very strong wind blowing and have traced this problem to a baffle which had fallen off under the van. Fortunately the baffle was lying on top of our fuel tank and will be replaced as soon as the weather is kind enough to let me crawl underneath.

Hi 504329lt

First you need to check the working pressure of your appliances, it's probably 50mb on a German van of that age. This is a fair bit different to the current standard of 30mb so you will probably need to buy a 50mb regulator to fit UK propane bottles. They're still available I believe, someone posted a supplier link not long ago but I can't remember who it was.

There's stacks of info on MHF about gas and Truma heater problems, it's a common problem, just go through the posts and you'll find all the answers you need.
It might be easier if you become a subscribing member, that way you can use the forum search facility to find the information more quickly.

Good luck.

Hi
50 mbar regulators should be available off the shelf from any Unipart Leisure dealer:

Definitely change it, and the hose too for safety's sake. Dont use a standard type UK regulator as their pressure is too low and you WILL have trouble with your gas appliances-trust me on this, I know from bitter experience!!
