Hello All
Over the last week or so every time I log onto the site after a few minutes I get an automatic pop up for a Dating agency, is anyone else getting this?
It only happens when I'm on MHF, no other.
Its not a facility I have requested in the past, (Honest) and I was wondering if someone had infiltrated the site.
Regards Eddie.

Hello Yorky
Sorry to hear of your problem. I too started receiving very unwelcome stuff on my PC a couple of years ago. It was not nice...not exactly hard porn but offensive nonetheless. I tried everything my small knowledge of PC's could manage to get rid of it but it took a real expert (friend of daughter's) to put a stop to it for me. I couldn't even begin to explain what it was all about but it involved a certain 'port' being open (I didn't even know of its existence) and also a lot of Spyware and other software being loaded on my PC to block it. Thankfully it has not reoccurred. I am sure you can get expert advice on here but be prepared to either call in an expert or take PC somewhere if problem gets worse.
Good Luck
Maura

No, to answer your question, I don't get any popups

Here's a couple of things to consider.

Are you using a Virus and Spyware protection... something like Norton Security or Zone Alarm security Suite. There are many others

I use Mozilla and Opera for browsing as an alternative to Internet Explorer. They have pop-up protection. I have also configure the browsers to delete all cookies when exiting at the end of browsing.

My guess is that there is a spyware type cookie on your computer..

If it has become hard-wired into your operating system, it can be hard to dispose of, but for starters it would be a good idea to clean out all th junk and files you don't need.

Start by opening the Windows - Temp folder, highlight all entries and delete them. Some may say they cannot be deleted so you will have to leave them for now. Next, in Internet Explorer go to Tools - Options and under the General tab, choose Delete Files and Delete Cookies. You may find that on a site that remembered your settings, you will have to input them again, but you will also have deleted unwanted cookies.

and download
the free anti-spyware program. Install it, start it up and update the database, then run it. Do as it says to delete any problems found.

Also, using Google look for cwshredder.exe, download and run it.

With luck the above will sort out your problem.

Hi Rob and thanks for all advice. I will follow instructions (even tho 'cwshredder.exe' sounds a bit scary Shocked ) I have done a lot of the other stuff a couple of times to be honest, deleting cookies and getting rid of temp files etc but will have another go.
As far as anti-spyware software goes I already have Lavasoft Ad-aware 6 - from previous probs a couple of years ago, and also Norton. However, I have just remembered that when my daughter was 'clearing out' files etc recently she binned a programme called Skybot which I was also told to download when I had the previous mentioned probs....coincidence or not?
I expect your grisoft is more up to date than what I already have so will give that a go.
Thanks again
Maura

Evening!

The Grisoft program is pretty good, and is fully operative for 30 days. After that you lose the Auto-Scanning and Auto-Updating, but the prog works fine without them - just like the AVG Virus Killer does!

cwshredder is a small program that scans for and can delete many of the problem Hi-Jackers that are distibuted by an outfit called CoolWebSearch.
They are difficult to get rid of, but this prog. can find and fix a lot of them.

Hello All
Thanks for all that info Bob, I use AGV Free for my protection seems to work OK until this unwanted page appeared.
It,s not causing me any offence, its just a damned nuisance when you'r halfway through reading something and it appears two or three times on the trot.
Anyway I'll try all the options you proposed, once again maany thanks.
Regards Eddie
