I am using the wireless connection and it runs at about 236 what ever they are.
Would I be better with Onspeed and will it work as I am overseas?
Thanks
Russell

All I can say is that I used onspeed while I was on dial-up and only gave up when I got broadband although it is supposed to work just as well with either
and I must admit I if I was not happy with broadband speed I would not hesitate to reinstall onspeed.
If I remember rightly it basically compresses the files at source so cuts down the amount of data to send so reducing the time to download
(Remember that is all it increases the download speed)
it can not increase jpeg downloads as they are already compressed
so if you download a lot of pic`s you may not see a great difference

But presumably, pages like this would open faster?

Hi Russ if I remember right they did
One thing I forgot to say if you turn the compression up to far it can distort images ( you can vary the compression/speed )

I think Onspeed is wonderful if you are using a low speed connection and/or are limited to a certain number of Mbits/Gbits.
With regard to higher speed on higher speed connections I'm not convinced that it improves on my BT 2M broadband. The Onspeed stats claim an increase in x4 speed but this is deceiving since you can see they purely judge this by dividing bytes you would have downloaded by the bytes actually downloaded - with my settings this means I only download a quarter of the 'normal' data.
I also have Onspeed installed on my ipaq PDA but I have not been away yet to put it through it's paces - but I expect it to make a big difference in speed.
So with your 236K speed Russell I would not know whether you would actually see an increase but you would drastically reduce your data. The speed would also depend on what you are doing. Browsing sees the best savings but if you are downloading compressed data (e.g. music or software) then Onspeed has no effect.
I understand that the speed would also depend on the route to the nearest Onspeed server and I have no idea where these are based.
So unless anybody else is using Onspeed near Montiga del Garda it might be up to you Russell to answer your query

I'm sure that Onspeed woold help you but here's a quick tip you can try this morning.
In Internet Explorer go to Tools and then Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab and then scroll down and unclick the box marked "show pictures". Click on apply and then OK. Go to another web site and then back to this one. See how much faster it loads. Great if all you want is info.

Yes Jim but this is where Onspeed gets its data saving (maybe speed increase ) from - by degrading images. A large percentage of data downloaded during browsing is images in one form or another. A lot of these images are adverts or buttons which you don't really need to see clearly at all when you just really want to read the ordinary text.
So Onspeed reduces the quality of all images to save you downloading what you don't want to read. So you set the compression to a value of degradation that suits you. Sometimes you might like to see the best possible version of an image and you just right click the image and select "download original image"

And by the way - do you have a digital camera with you. If so, how about a quick picture of the view from your van. Just add it as an attachment to your post.
Cheers
Ian
PS. You'll have to turn pictures on again if you want to see that it's worked.
