Hi Steve, sure I'll get up and see if I can find this mysterious screw in the next few days and take a snap. Next prob will be remembering how to reduce size of snap, maybe if you PM your email that would be easier

Hi

Had exactly the same problem on our Laika with F65 awning and fixed it myself - a perfect "repair". It was just a case of taking the plastic end caps off and the thing snaps back into place perfectly.

I'm in Ilkley too if you want to talk through what's involved in getting the cover back in place.

I've just had a quick shufty up the ladder to see where these "new"screws are, there are 2 fixed into the top joint at the third points, which appear to limit the upward movement of the back of the awning. Will take pics over weekend to clarify detail. Front of mine is still gaping slightly which is a concern as water can enter still and in time rot the innnards I believe

Thanks Norman - off with the van this weekend so will try to investigate the end-caps issue. Sounds like removing them would certainly make it easier to bend the metalwork back into shape.

(It's a bit of a pain not having the van at home - we only have visiting rights when we actually go away in it - so there's not enough opportunity for DIY, tinkering, cleaning & polishing - which are half the fun of ownership!)

Noel - PM'd my e-mail address for any photos, thanks.

cheers

Steve

Hi,

I was rushing out last Friday when I saw your posting (somewhat late) and dashed off a quick reply.

I should have added more detail. Like you, I thought I must have hit something (like a tree) for the top cover to bow out but having seen yours in an identical condition, I'm prepared to believe it has something to do with the wind.

I looked at it for a month or two thinking it was going to cost me a bomb. On tackling the problem, I pryed off the two plastic end caps, and then loosened the screws attaching the top cover. On release ,the top cover immediately regained its former shape and I tightened up the screws, fitted the endcaps and Bingo! In all it took maybe 10 minutes.

Hi,
Old thread resurrected . . .

Just got home from a trip - a bit blustery heading north with one strong gust that moved us sideways and discovered our Fiamma F65i awning has "popped" the housing in exactly the same way as previous owners have found.

Dreading the cost of repair but thanks to MHF members' previous advice I hope that I can straighten ours with a judicious "thump".

I noticed when up on the roof a while ago that there is a label in the middle rear that reads Support so it should have had a third central mounting bracket. It's the standard Fiat panel van fittings. The awning was fitted at Discover Darlington (as a freebee due to various c*ck*ps) when we bought the van new two years ago.

Not sure about the additional screws mentioned previously as a photo wasn't posted.

(Is anything ever done properly these days Crying or Very sad )

Steve

When ours was lifted while out at Longleat it ripped a hole through the side of the MH and cost our insurers several thousands to sort out.......

But no problems since with insurance as it was due to wind and no-one can guard against that! (No jokes about eating sprouts though! Rolling Eyes Embarassed Laughing )

The leverage when they are fully extended is massive - not surprising looking at the length from the outer rail to the attachment point......

Who was it said "Give me a suitable lever and I will move the world? Rolling Eyes Laughing "

So MHF has saved you the cost of a new awning and dealer fitting - good value IMO Laughing

Glad yours went back OK,

Dave
