Hi,
Can you help please. I tried downloading various documents from your download section. I successfully d/l'd the Checklist but when I tried to d/l the ones about Portugal I got a blank screen with "Class not registered" and when I clicked OK it went to "The software installation data in the Active Directory is corrupt" again clicking OK left me with a blank page. The back arrow took me back to the download menu page. Everything else is working great and I am enjoying the site.

I am still having the above problem with my PC which is running XP and IE6.
However I have managed to d/l the bits I wanted using an old PC running W98SE.
If any techie can give me a clue I would be most grateful. I have re-installed IE6 and I am up to date on all bits and pieces. It is not only MHF I get this problem with but it does not happen often.
Thanks,
BillD

Hi Bill,

The Portugal documents appear to open straight into an MS .xls document and (I think?) a MS Word document. Reading the error messages you are getting, I suggest you consider that there may be some error in your MS Office installation or perhaps your firewall needs re-configuring for certain types of MS document???

The checklist that you successfully downloaded gives an option to 'save' in addition to direct opening and that may account for the difference in your case. Take a look at your firewall settings for the individual programs and then consider re-configuring or re-installing Office.

Good Luck,

Steve

Depends what version of office you are on there may be a detect and repair option for the installation accesses from the Help Section in the toolbar

I had quite a few download issues with IE over the years and now use the Mozilla Firefox Browser which IMO has a better download manager (may be the Same if you use Netscape Browser)

You may consider downloading this from MS

http://msdn.microsoft.com/xml/default.asp

and\or In IE select Tools, Options, Programs and click on reset near bottom left.

Thanks again guys,
Mozilla has done the trick! It downloaded all I wanted in a flash. I will keep running it and give it a good trial.
Pusser, I have downloaded your suggestion - now what do I do, it looks a bit complicated?
Best regards,
BillD

It is a bit complicated, far more than what I imagined. However, it seems likely that this would resolve the class not registered issue in 98 but on reflection, should not be needed for XP although it is for that as well. It may be better to repair XP as something seems to have got corrupted.

Try following these guidelines P%20by%20Installing%20Over%20top%20of%20Existing%20Setup:" target="_blank">http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm#How%20to%20Repair%20Windows%2#alienP%20by%20Installing%20Over%20top%20of%20Existing%20Setup:

It is important to ascertain whether you have an OEM version where support is only available from the people you bought the machine or the retail version. Retail version is a doddle as you can see from the above link.

Try resetting IE as I first mentioned to see if that resolves anything.

Incidently, Mozilla can be problematical too, (as everything to do with computers seems to be once you have a problem) and you may find you end up receiving loads of spam amongst other things.

I have a similar weird issue where when the PC boots up it will play a midi file or wav file. Once booted up, Windows media says those file types are not a recognised format. I have tried all the obvious but no luck so far.

Sory this is not very helpful but it is more difficult trying to explain things than actually do them when they are in front of your eyes.
