Coq au Van =
Chicken pieces, bottled khorma sauce, rice and a pre-washed packet of salad.

Add bottle of wine, fruit and chocolate with the coffee and we know we're in the van

Well being the fantastic cook that I am ( cough cough!!) We start with homemade soup then go on to Steak Diane with 3 veg, roast potatoes and mash followed by sponge pudding and custard. Of course I'm lying!!!

It's usually a tin of minced beef ( or luncheon meat) with a tin of carrots and a tin of baked beans and a tin of mushrooms all in a pan with a packet of cup-a-soup ( usually oxtail or similar) a bit of curry powder and garlic pepper and a few slices of buttered bread! 5 minutes and it's done! Same meal I used to cook in a 2 man dome tent! All in one pan and only 1 spoon needed to stir it - slop it in a couple of bowls and eat with a spoon. Can you tell I'm married to an ex squaddie???

Of course if I'm feeling mega lazy it's down the nearest pub!

I suppose now we're on a pension and have plenty of time I might actually have to get into cooking! The Knaus has a fantastic kitchen ( after the VW Trident) but I don't know if I can do it justice!

Marie

Blimey! Everyone's so into cooking.

For us, it varies. Sometimes, it's pitta bread, cheese, humus, tomatoes, or whatever we've picked up at the supermarket en route. If we arrive some time before a meal, we might cook, but only heating up a quiche, and probably new potatoes with some chutney / humus / sun dried tomatoes / yummy things in little plastic pots. Maybe pasta with pesto. We're not into huge complicated meals.

Oh, and beer for me, and fizzy white or Ozzie red for 'er indoors. Or tea if it's during the day.

I'm with the tuna pasta salad with garlic ciabatta, or failing that tearing lumps off a fresh french baguette.
A nice french wine washes it down a treat.

Grettings,

We go for a chicken cooked in the oven if we intend to settle for tea time, this should last us a few days, with potatoes and veg and plenty of gravy.

If we arrive on site at lunch tme it wil be a bacon, tomato, suasage grilled with an egg.

We like to eat cooked meals this is why we had to have a motorhome with an oven and grille.

For snacks we have salads, dolmades, noodles and pasta.

our fave is poached salmon mayonnaise with lots of salady bits, normally prepared at home, washed down by a chilled chablis. The fridge needs to be tested on 12 volts so maybe 2 chablis are required for a true test. Myra dishes out the grub while I attend to hookups and important mens work, like finding the loos and chem disposal point.Still looking for decent wine glasses that fit in the holders and are big enough to hold more than a thimble full. Please dont anyone mention the P (plastic) word

Hi all,

The first day of our travels lunch is usually smoked salmon (courtesy of Lidl) in a fancy roll (courtesy of Somerfield or Morrisons)

The first meal depends where we are

Going to France one of our first stops is a supermarket for the initial load of cheese, wine, beer, coffee and bread plus one of their prepared main courses like salmon in a sorrel sauce or if we can't get one of those then it's a tin of cassoulet or sausage in lentils with salad potatoes or couscous

In the UK we always have the cassoulet and sausage with lentils in the stock place just in case but we always (well nearly always) bring something we prepared earlier (Blue Peter style) like chickpea curry or Basque chicken in our tiny freezer compartment of the fridge with salad potatoes or pasta things or pilau rice, sometimes we are really lucky and find a handy chip shop

Wherever we are there is always beer and we always bring wine with us, we have found that it is acceptable (to us) to have French wine in 5-litre cartons and of course we carry wine bottles in case we go visiting - mustn't forget the nightcap which is usually gin & tonic for Ell and a pastis for me

Just writing it all down makes me feel quite depressed, no trips planned in the short term, the weather is fairly atrocious - it must be withdrawal symptoms - never mind we still have the beer, wine, gin and pastis

See you somewhere - David & Ellen

I thought that too, it should beauuuutiful. I am sitting here at work counting down the minutes till lunch time so I can go raid M&S! Crying or Very sad

Lately I have taken a liking to Jacket Sweet Potato ... with butter and pepper .... mmmmmmmm mmmmm. But if we arrive on site in a morning, it is usually a full on fryup on the cadac.

I have recently had to restart swimming 1/2 mile a day to counteract these serious food cravings brought on by quitting smoking! Threads like these don't help the cause Laughing Laughing

I'm starving - missed breakfast and have to read up all the new posts before lunch Confused This retirement lark is so busy.

Actually our first meal is usually mince (homemade and frozen ready for the next outing) tinned potatoes and tinned peas. Despite living in the land of the best mince ever we never have mince or tinned pots. or peas at home so it is a lovely change.

Disaster last time out - mistook mushrooms in a stock ready for making soup for the mince. Never mind the bread and cheese was lovely.

Surprise, surprise the sun is shining and melting the frost. Never mind - weather forecast is back to rain and wind for the rest of the week.

Sue
