Hi there,

We are thinking of buying new satellite dish to use in Spain, we want one that can be mounted on a tripod, and were wondering if anyone could recommend any particular dish / lnb setup for optimum results, we have a 60 maxview dish at the moment with a basic satfinder, we presume we need a bigger dish, but what make?

any suggestions would be gratedully received

There have been some threads on this recently. Bob is down there at the moment and he has had problems with his camos. I have heard the crankup you have can get better results but the bigger the dish the more chance.We have a 80cm dish on a tripod that people say is good in southern spain. You can get them off ebay. Or try a google search for a company called satstore.

I also understand you have to change the position of the actual lnb by twisting it slightly.

Peedee is absolutely correct, there are areas that even a 3metre dish tuned to the southern beam will lose signal (mainly ch 5)and its not because of the distance from UK eg Granada can pick up sometimes better than Alicante, we fit Sat TV for the Brits down here and motorhomers when travelling seem to be happy with a 90cm dish and a decent .3 lnb , there are plenty folk who live in statics and caravans permanently and they want a proper system which we can supply but remember your TV watching time will be minimal down here I expect because of the glorious weather so buy a 80 or 90cm dish and good LNB, now after all I just said we use a Sat in a case from Lidl with tiny dish get about half a dozen channels down here Raceworld, Cnn. Euronews, etc which is enough for us in our MH and if we changed it would only be to a crank up but we would still use the small dish to get a signal when we are parked under trees Smile

Lidl were selling their small box for 30 euros recently Smile

Slightly off topic but I understand BBC are switching from Astra2D to the South Beam in November - meaning these channels should be more accessible.

Can anyone confirm or deny?

Just to perhaps put the damper on the BBC post by Rapid561. BBC & ITV are supposed to be launching there own Sat transmission in the autumn but they havn't said which Satellite it will be on but I doubt that it will be any other than 2D and from what I have read you will probably need another receiver. Have a look here

I think much of what they propose to do is dependant on what the government decides regarding the licence fee. i.e. how much money is there to spend. I have been holding fire on buying any satellite receiver equipment waiting for announcements. I firmly beileve that this is the route they must take otherwise there are going to an awful lot of disgruntled folk when they switch off analogue. We don't all want to contribute to Mr Murdock's self preservation fund.
