Hi

I've been looking into whether or not I can connect a digital/terrestrial tuner to my laptop via my USB port...you know..to watch TV/DIDGITAL TV on my laptop. Thought it might save as carrying on old TV set with us. Is it worth spending the money on these things? Do they work...ie actaully give you decent signal etc? Has anybody found that they have had to take a signal boosting antenna in addition to the unit antenna?

there seems to be so many... pinnacle, freecom, artec. some have a USB stick - is this best?

Any help greatfully received! We know absolutely nothing about this!

Thanks

Yes they do, you might want a better aerial than the little one supplied.

The one I have I use while travelling with work don't use it in the RV as I have Sky. It is a MSI mega sky 550 did not pay much for it, got it on offer from Maplins 30 pound ish I seem to remember.

It is free view so in some areas signal might not be that great or might not work at all, but for the money worth having. If you are going to use it in your MH connect it to a good aerial, have done that in hotels from time to time and it's worked well when the little one did not.

Regards

Yes 2 Notebooks so Two USB DVBTV

They cost around £30

They work great when plugged into a main aerial in Home or the Status in the Motorhome. The supplied aerials are a little week though.

Coverage seems equal to a freestanding DVBTV unit at the least. Best thing is you can record stacks of programs for when the signal area is not so good directly onto the notebook. You can also pause time and resume if you have to Pop out of the van for a short while.

Usual Freeview Signal Area problems as any DVBTV unit but this can only get better (Shouldn't it!)

Useful - YES

In my previous van, we had no tv, so we bought a laptop for me to use for that Laughing and maybe use at home.there was an ariel fitted, the usual status one.I bought the Hauppage usb tv adaptor from Staples.this fits inbetween the ariel and laptop.worked well if the signal was ok.it even works on those sites that supply tv to the pitch, but you will need extra cable for that.
Our adaptor was for terestial tv but there is a digital model.
hope this helps

I have one and it is great... Check though as most need USB2 as USB1 would be too slow in data trasfer.... or so they say....

This said ours will only work on USB 2 according to the manual ...
However ...
I didn't realise this and used it in a PC with USB 1 ...
Oooooops

IT WORKED!

Might be a fluke though.

Hi

use a Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS which i got from ebay a year ago. Really good reception compared to my set top box but the aerial is useless in the van except in strong signal areas partly because of the van'sAluminium walls.

It has both analogue and digital decoders an EPG and can record to hard disk on a laptop - but my lappy is a bit slow so I get a frame rate of only about 5 fps.

Def need USB 2 for any of these
