"we went for the £12.50 package which gives us unlimited browsing, 3 gigs of downloads and officially allowed to use the phone as a modem."

Stew,

Now, I'd LOVE a £12.50 per month contract with T-mobile, for up to 18 months if they wished, for a 3GB limit and legitimate use as a modem to a laptop.

The problem is, I can't seem to get that without paying them £37.50 a month in total for the privilege of including that part:

Hi Dave

I have copied the full paragraph

Quote:
We are currently using a package which gives us 3000 minutes off peak to tmobile and landlines for just £5. This is so cheap because we have had the line for some time, so plus the internet it costs us just £17.50 per month (we went for the £12.50 package which gives us unlimited browsing, 3 gigs of downloads and officially allowed to use the phone as a modem.

The clue is in the first line where I say we are using a package that gives us 3000 minutes for £5. The internet package of £12.50 makes it up to £17.50.

The cheapest way to do it with a new line is to take out a U-Fix off peak deal for £15 and then add the internet package of either £7.50 or £12.50. Even though the above is not advertised you can get it.

I am not trying to sell the T mobile package to anyone simply in response to requests outlined how it works for me.

Hopefully this has changed your Sad to a Smile

I'm afraid not. £27.50 per month is too much for occasional use such as when away in the van. £12.50 per month isn't.

It'll happen one day.

I was tempted by the principle of a contract, rather than PAYG, because of the disproportionate savings you can get off the phone price if you have a bit of use discipline. On the T-mobile side, for example, I'd get:

I must confess in my case having a mobile phone provided by work complicates matters. It is not what I'd choose but does what I need for work.

Hi

Thanks Dave (M&D).

Dave (Dabs) the vario ii is a fantastic piece of kit. I was really tempted to upgrade to it but for two things - the slide out keyboard does just when you do not want it to, I wish that they had put a catch on it and I struggle with dialling out on it. I sometimes have a list of 30 people to call and I just want to get it done. I find the varios a bit slow in this area - I have a vario 1 here. Otherwise the speed and use of it is fantastic.

Hi Dave,
I think you'll find that although T-Mobile PAYG 3G rates are not cheap they are capped at a pound per day so you can use it to your hearts content.Laughing

I hope that's correct as I'm planning on getting one of their 3G lappy cards with a PAYG data sim.

Anyone confirm that Question

I just answered my own question.

It is capped at £1 per day subject to 40 Mb maximum upload/download.
Not much for downloading large files but fine for browsing and email.

The T-Mobile link is

There's also another thread running on this that I've just seen.

The only thing that worries me about T-Mobile is the coverage but I do have a vodafone GPRS card to fall back on.

Thanks, Tony. I popped into T-mobile in town this afternoon. Going a datacard route has always been a possibility. I had been hoping the all-in-one solution might have come down even more in total price, but not yet. And Vodafone just don't want to know; their prices are ridiculous.

Maybe I'll continue to carry the old work phone (at least it's small), Pocket PC and a laptop datacard with optional external antenna, and just put up with bulges and limping .....

Hi Dave,

There is someone selling the T-Mobile 3G cards on eBay at a very reasonable price.

Just don't bid on the one tomorrow - that's for me Exclamation Exclamation Laughing
