Greetings,

Someone mentioned a free download that could determine the connection speed, I made a note of this but have lost the information.

My computer has recently been very slow on line and I thought it may have been the computer so I have defragged and removed some unused software, used a registry cleaner, scanned for viruses and spyware but still the speed is slow.

I have contacted the ISP (Karoo) who tell me that they have checked my connection and this seems OK.

I would like to check the speed for myself, so if anyone knows of this free download or any other software I can use I would appreciate if they could let me know.

Hi

whilst you are waiting for a link to the software you could try downloading something, say from the adobe site. It will tell you what download speed you are getting

Hi Peter I was wondering are you basing your PC perfomance on how fast MHF is working? because as of late I have been having to wait ages for many pages ,even to the point of refreshing many times before a page loads , it's only MHF though every other site is flying

Same here, Geo. I thought it must be because the signal takes longer to get to Spain, but what do I know?

Anyway, you decided which RV you're getting yet? And when?

Ours is working out really well - no problems, plenty of room, really comfortable.

Go for it now - see my sig!!

Cheers, & good luck with your mission.

Bruce

Greetings,

Thanks for you speedy response folks, after using Zdnets tool I have determined that the speed is 485 kbs, I also checked on the ISP's status monitor, that gave 608, but it always gives 608, the connection I have is supposed to be up to 2 mbs, but falls far short of this.

With regards to your comments Geo re Mhf site, yes it is slow but also are all the others at the moment, I have to keep refreshing the pages.

Another thing, is the processor is working flat out at times even with minimal programmes running and this is making the PSU speed up so that I think it is going to take off, this is why initially I thought it could be a virus or spyware but nothing found, I use Norton anti-virus and firewall.

Also one of the HDD's is ticking away occasionally but did a check through a diagnostics tool and it says they are both OK. Aint computers great! could be time to have a reformat and clean reinstallation of the programmes.

Actually it could be time for a new computer but funds are at an all time low at the moment so I have backed up my files to my 250gb ext HDD in case it gets any worse, then I can use the lap top for a while.

I never had these problems with my Amstrad 6128!!!

Greeting to you all

the first post on this thread by Humber-Traveller is exactly like mine at this time. I have used the built in facilities, ad ware, spyware and anti virus and have deleted som low risk items.
As recommended by Doug I checked the speed and got 1826KBPS...no idea what that means..but I am still experiencing very slow performance on specific sites. MHF being one.
It recognises me when I log in but getting into the forum takes ages and sometimes not at all.

I know how to use a computer within the limits of necessity and do spend some time daily on other web sites and ebay but I would like to know why over the past week MHF has, for me, slowed down as it used to be almost instantaneous connection into the forum.

I look forward to suggested solutions from "masters of this black art"!!!!

Ron

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, could be the group is getting more and more popular and people are queueing up to get in and the server cannot handle the extra demand Ron, what do you think folks?
