Good morning,

We have Norton running on our computer, every minute or so when on line a block pops up with "Symantec a recent attack on your computer has been blocked", then after a few minutes another block appears in the middle of the screen with

Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, please tell Microsoft, then it has a send error report or don't send button.

Whichever I click on it closes the internet access down, it is driving me crazy as it is happening every ten minutes or so, what am I doing wrong?????

I am hopeless around computers and would appreciate any help.

thanks cavaqueen

Hi CQ

I suspect a bit more info is going to be required if the mighty MHFers are going to solve this problem Wink

Can I ask if you are running XP?
If so how long have you had it?
And do you allow automatic microsoft updates?

Hello Ken

You are the second person to mention firefox in a matter of hours.

I do not think I had heard of it before.

If I download it, presumably I then just click on Firefox rather than the Internet Explorer logo to connect to the net?

Would I need to uninstall IE?

Thanks

Russell

The suggestion of swapping to Firefox is the best solution. It is a beter system than IE and is less likely to attack. I would suggest the installation of Thunderbird for your mail as well. it again seems to filter out much more spam than Microsoft.

You surprise me Russell - There are several Firefox fans on MHF and like me they often give it a plug.

You don't need to uninstall anything to run it. I like it for several reasons but best is the ability to include lots of free extensions by third parties. I can run it well on Win98se which I am still pretty happy with.

Hi Russell

"If I download it, presumably I then just click on Firefox rather than the Internet Explorer logo to connect to the net? "

Correct

"Would I need to uninstall IE?"

No, just don't ever use it again - you won't ever want to once you get accustomed to using Firefox instead.

Changing to Firefox will mean that you have to modify how you browse slightly to get the greatest benefit (using tabs for instance) and if you want to keep your IE favourites you'll need to export them to the new browser along with plug-ins etc. But it's all quite easy to do and the end result will be a better, quicker and safer browsing experience.

Not only do you not have to uninstall IE, you can use both IE and Firefox simultaneously. Although why anyone would I dont know. Rolling Eyes
