Hi,

I recently bought a 1yr old Hymer Exsis, which I'm very happy with. It came with 2 * 11kg German propane bottles (silver).

I'm now camped in the alps (Chamonix) but have found out rather unfortunately that, although they look the same, the French 11gk propane cylinders (red, traditional looking - not 'le cube') do not mate properly with the German regulator. The van is new so it's 30mb throughout. This is what is written on the German regulator:

GDK Caravan
CE 0085 BM 0271 Art No 01285 - 00
0036 Type EN71

The problem is that the connectors are very similar. Both are tightened by hand, and the German regulator happily mates with the French cylinder, but when the cylinder valve is opened gas hisses out. Closer inspection reveals that the German regulator plug has a brass central protruding tube, and there doesn't seem to be a suitable recepticle for this on the French gas botttles.

So, I'm stuck, in somewhere pretty cold with only 1 full cylinder of propane. I reckon it'll last me about 6 days with heating on low all night... them I'm done for!

So, I think I need a pigtail lead to adapt the German regulator to a French red 11kg propane bottle (it looks just like the silver German cylinder except it's red in colour). Does anybody know where in the Chamonix region (I'm prepared to travel obviously) would sell such a pigtail connector lead.

Let me know if you need pictures and I'll nip out and take some.

Thanks in advance,

David

I have the current Aire de Service Guide handy.

In the Haute Savoie region there is :
Isacar Loisirs
Route de Chamonix
74370 Charvonnix
tel 04 50 60 33 48

There is also:
Curioz Loisirs
228 Route de Bellegarde
74330 la Balme de Sillingy
tel 04 0 68 78 65
Think this is Annecy

They might be helpful as both are agents for several types of camping car.
