I will try to explain what is happening. My taskbar clock can be working correctly for hours, it would then stop I have downloaded two online clocks the latest being Sputnik. It connects sometimes
Well I have bt wireless broadband and all of the other computers on the home network have no problem. My Vaio notebook on the other hand has major problems. I am now using BtNorton along with
Spyware doctor
Spyware terminator
I was online to the advisor at Bt and happened to look at the taskbar clock, it said 12.27 I glansed at the watch and it was correct. I was then talking to him for a while looked at the taskbar clock again and it sain 12.00 It had gone backwards
So my question is do i have a taskbar clock virus?
I have searched the web with no luck.
I know the bios clock and taskbar clock are not related and bios only keeps time when switched off
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
System Type X86-based PC
Time Zone GMT Standard Time
I am not sure which info would help so I have put some above.
Any Ideas?
T.I.A.
Steve

I concure that the CMOS battery might be on the way out. Its a small battery on the motherboard and you can source them by number from various places inclduing

However that said I have seen this happen on Dells (Maybe they have duff batteries) and also PC's with BT connection (Maybe they are BT)
Hope you get it sorted as these little things take away the confidence in a PC.

Hi Paul and Cobalt
I am led to beleive it is not the cmoa battery
I know the bios clock and taskbar clock are not related and bios only keeps time when switched off
The bios battery has no control of taskbar clock whilst you are in windows.

I was just going to say that.
What a strange one, Steve. I've never heard of this before. Like you, I've had a bit of a search around, and can't find anything.
Sorry to be useless.

Hi Gerald
Yep
weird?
I have even stopped clock in dos uninstalled and reinstalled. Not sure of settings now.
Could the memory stop sending power to clock, say when it overheats or uses all the memory? If so can you increase amount of memory allowed?
Initial post 1.06 now 2.08 yet taslbar clock says 1.18 then 1.19. It seems to work when I look at it.
If I open it then sometmes it works and others it doesn't?
I am correct in saying it has nothing to do with cmos?
