Takeaflight: presumably when towing a caravan at least they bend in the middle?
Unlike an RV.
THats very true, I went to look at a Four Winds Fun Mover last week and in many respects its an ideal RV for our purpose, however memories came back of my wife hanging half out of the window, shouting directions, while I negoiate a small French town that I have managed to find myself in, quite by accident. The backs of French heads coming perily close to the wing mirrors and the looks on some of the locals faces, well you don't need to understand French to know what they where thinking.
Squeezing through parked cars and thats with a 7.7m Hymer and trailer.
I came to the conclusion the Four Winds was not for us. Also without a tape I counld'nt be sure but I think the width was greater than 101 inches. It was a two year old model with a British Reg. So does that mean that because it got through DVLA alls well with the world, or if you had an insurance claim this may be a issue ?
Oh by the way should anyone be interested it was in Autotrader, 10000 miles (a bit on the scruffy side) 36000 plus VAT he had bought it from Trucks R US .

I saw the equivalent of a bendy bus in a VW camper caravan combination a couple of years ago when I hadn't made my mind up about what I wanted.
Basically the caravan just had the loo and bed and mostly everything everything else was in the van the guy an aircraft engineer had taken a small eribacar (I think) body and modified the running gear making the A frame much shorter so it really looked like one unit.
One trick I liked was that the leisure batteries were on a rack system and could be moved fore and aft to alter nose weight/trim.
The owner and his wife were vertically challenged which certainly helped.

So does that mean if an RV is already registered that is over width there is no problems. Its only the recently imported ones that have yet to be checked ?
I think when my wife gives up her business, then a 26 foot ish RV would be great. Mind you I think she would have the shag pile carpet out quicker than you could say laminate flooring

Hi Takeflight, no the C&U regs say 100.39 and thats the law, It's just not been enforced thats all. The RVDA say that the DVLA have told them that if its been registered it OK. But they don't make the law, as they say on their website, so how can they change it?

Was their false grass actually 'greener' or was it just a trick of the light...
No I wouldn't want a caravan but then again I'm not Brave enough (Brave...get it.....!!) to drive an RV but I know which I'd prefer on a cold winters day with the wind howling!!
And small French villages deserve to be inconvenienced for being so .... well French! and for nicking all the EU grants to rebuild their local church and for having rules about what colour you can paint your house and for eating snails and for growing vines and for brewing Eau de Vie and for................ Eh What! Don't know what came over me for a minute!!

Make a table? Go for lunch with 30 others? Play a game with 12 dice & 2 euro presents? Design & fly a plane? Taste the local vino?
Yes, it's true, all of the above. Though I'd have to admit that the consumption of the local wine was more successful than the flight of the Tong airliner.
And people back home think we just sit around in the sun all day!

From what I saw when In Benidorm last and touring round a few of the campsites fulltiming retired Brits did indeed seem to sit in the shade all day drinking the local cheap (Lidls) vino, what a life, they looked a sad lot.
