After taking out fully comp insurance with RH Specialist Insurance Brokers, who use Equity Red Star as the Underwriters, as do many others, I noticed in the exclusions section that recovery did not apply to my policy and I was therefore not covered in the event of a breakdown/accident, Despite statements made on there Web Site to the contrary (All Policies Include Recovery)
Following three days of disscusion and arguing they are adamant that Red Star will only recover ARVs and Motorhomes whos legnth is in the low 20s (feet) due to excessive costs, and this ruling is now across the board, exsisting policies taken out before the cut off date (Unknown) May still be covered,
I have now cancelled my policy with RH and intend to complain both to the Insurance Ombudsman and the trading standards dept, they had the nerve to say they will only charge me pro rata for the cover used, and i was lucky to have discovered the error before the 14 day cancellation period after wich the policy is not cancelable???I cannot print my reply here Below is a copied and pasted section from there web site

Geo
Mods this may deserve a sticky for a few days as it may affect a lot of our members
Referance to the unknown date is due to the fact RH do not know when Red Star made the ruling regards legnth |

Try Safeguard Geo... they were cheapest for me... and trust me I rung and compared em all!!
Safeguard also have unlimited glass cover, unlike some others who have £500 or £1000 limits (try replacing your rv windscreen for under a grand... ).
Safeguard offer recovery policy with the AA that has no size or weight restrictions.
Mine was £668 all in, fully comp. They even mirrored my 8 years no claims I hold on my car. |

I would say you were ok with that Telbell, common sense would dictate that 23 ft is low 20s, 24-26 mid and 27-29 hi 20s
But what conection Insurance companies and common sense have I cant answer
Geo
Ther has to be someone out there with reasonable full cover
SUGGESTIONS ON A POSRCARD PLEASE |

Hi Geo,
I have made this a sticky and also altered the title (hope you don't mind) I altered the title so "warning" would be shown when viewed on the home page, before it was missing until the thread was opened.
Just as well you noticed this, we never know how good an insurance is until we need to call them, in your case for recovery, it would have been useless!

I have our motorhome insured via the Caravan Club,( Axa). extremely reasonable £355.however the breakdown /recovery with the green flag is extra.we have to renew in April so am looking for quotes, but breakdown cover runs untill September.considering ours is 28ft and max 5.25 gross weight and low to the ground it is difficult to get a breakdown service to recover us.any suggestions welcome.
