I've just been 'thanked' by someone - and I thought thats odd haven't done anything to deserve thanks today perhaps its an old one - it was it is connected to this post from a year ago

Now I wonder how that thread surfaced? and then I wondered what moves people to thank others on this site. I've had thanks for all sorts of reasons some for doing quite trivial things and other times I've gone out of my way to dig up stuff and the thread just goes cold. I tend to give thanks disproportionately to people who amuse me.
So what makes you give thanks? I've even added a poll.
