Now then - does anyone know what it costs to use a T-Mobile PAYG card when you're across the water in Europe??

Thanks for asking Keith.
That's exactly what I was wondering.
Jock.

So, to answer my own question - this lifted off the T-Mobile site for France:
Making calls (any country, anytime) 55p
Receiving calls (any country, anytime) 55p
Receiving a call with International Option* 20p
Retrieving voicemail** 75p
Text to UK 40p
Text to non-UK 50p
Picture message to UK 20p
Picture message to non-UK 20p
Receiving a text or picture message free
WAP (using GPRS) £7.50 per Mb
Office Link 0.2p per Kb
BlackBerry 0.73p per Kb
3G (where available) £7.50 per Mb

It would appear to be fairly expensive to use your PAYG SIM card outside of the UK - these prices seem to cover the whole of Europe, you can check other countries by going to

Hello Keith/JockandRita,

Can I just correct the T Mobile charges abroad you posted Keith, those relate to the contract tariff. The charges abroad for GPRS/3G are £20..!!! per Meg. as I found to my cost last month Shocked . I informed T mobile about the error, as they had send me the link to that price list in response to my query regarding costs abroad.
T Mobile's customer service is very good as they refunded some of my charges and promised to have the payg tariff updated Confused

Neil

Oh Bu--er! - Thanks Neil - I'd have gone across the water and never given a thought to accessing mail etc on two or three occassions - looks like I'll be using either wifi "hotspots" or finding an internet cafe! Maybe even get the kids to send text messages instead - the three network is on local charges in Italy.

Hi all,

Unlocked 3G datacard ordered from Neil's link above. Still waiting for the T Mobile sim card though. Sad

The laptop has been exchanged due to the processor overheating. Exchange unit has "Blue Tooth" Rolling Eyes and a PCMICA slot. Smile

Spoilt for choice now. Rolling Eyes

Jock.

Just to say I now have an unlocked Vodafone 3G card up and running with a standard PAYG T-Mobile sim and the results are very impressive.
I also invested in an external aerial for the card (from eBay) for those "iffy" signal areas I'm bound to find on my travels. It certainly gave the signal a boost here at home.

Thanks again to Neil and Jim for all their input.

One question for the "experts" (and I bet the answers staring me in the face Embarassed )...
How can you tell how much credit is left on the sim card? Is there a similar way of checking as you would with a PAYG mobile?

Ignore my last post.

There's an old saying....RTFM Exclamation

Having read the T-Mobile manual it dawned on me that all I needed was an on-line top-up which also shows, conveniently, the amount of credit left.

Duh Exclamation Embarassed
