[quote:02572c5ba0]Pull up on site, Handbrake on, Brew on, simple aint it

I can't remember who I'm quoting there, but it doesn't matter anyway. What I'm getting at is that to campervanners, (etc?) it can seem a little odd that motorhomers [u:02572c5ba0]appear[/u:02572c5ba0] not to get out of their vans!
I'm sure you must do, well, I know you do, but I remember we once pulled onto an aire in the Dordogne where there were lots of motorhomes, (nearly all French-owned / hired) and we got the distinct feeling that everyone inside them, mainly elderly couples, was frightened of us. It wasn't particularly late and it wasn't raining but Nobody was out and about. I've seen what appears to be much the same apparently locked-in attitude all over the place. And we're not that scary, are we. Are we?
So do you get out? When?
If not, is it just because you don't have to?
Have I got it badly wrong?
Am I just being wicked?

In the mountains we get out, have a stretch and a glass even in winter. We have even wrapped up tight - snoods and all to take in the air on a little CL in Febuary for the view however we spent a weekend in Cornwall and only got out of Chuggs to plug the mains in !!
When on a 'proper' site which we find a little sterile since they are inveriably surrounded by trees and all you can see is other large white objects we tend to snuggle up and stay 'in doors' since there isnt much to see.
I dont know if I mentioned this on another thread but..........
Whilst at the CC site at conistene water we strolled down to the tent site by the lake - What a difference there was parties, real fires and cub scouts galour having a whale of a time with no trouble, each car had its radio on but not too loud for others, chess games and scout leaders balling at the troops. Going back up to our site it was peace and tranquilaty with the lazey blue glow of the goggle box flickering out of each window and an array of dishes strategicaly set up like potted plants.
Nice sunset that night too btw
If thats what you want then thats ok by me - dont see the point myself

Last year my "stag do" was held there and thereabouts - my mates got so drunk that they went deaf (as ya do) and in, to them, normal conversation they shouted a lot and to the considerable annoyance of normal campers.
It was about 2am and I was in the van trying to sleep and thinking, Hell, these are my mates and they are just the sort of people I don't want to be anywhere near on a campsite.
So far I've managed to avoid a repeat of that situation!

I have always found that people in tents are more open & friendly, when we used to camp we always seem to end up sitting around til the early hours drinking with complete strangers. One thing that put us off when we had a caravan was the way most people seemed to behave, have alook at the small 5 van CL's where people can park where they like normally its one in each corner with the fifth van left to try to decide where to park. Then when you come to leave somebody youv'e never spoken to all week gives you a friendly wave & says nice to see you, or see you again sometime
Motorhomes & campers I find can be sometimes be either, I prefer going on a campsite rather than a caravans only site. I know at times I want to just get away & not socialise with anybody else. Other times I try to make the effort, it would be nice if you could hang some sort of international sign up to indicate that your really a friendly person who would enjoy meeting others.

I know what you mean, dude, and I'm often guilty of at least seeming to be stand offish. For some reason when we're abroad I'm more likely to natter with Europeans (proper ones) than with Brits.
I'll go and get analysed, I think.

I am rather shy but will always talk to someone if they start the conversation, usually walking Jess will be the icebreaker, cos I will blossom if someone comments how beautiful she is. Normally though I find it difficult to get past the 'morning' stage, so could seem standoffish

Assume that 'jess' is a dog, unfortunately not being a dog lover (not picking on dogs in particular as I don't like any pets at all) we would be unlikey to get past the 'morning' stage.

I always get out of my van to do the washing up even though ive got a sink in the van.(Dont start all that again for goodness sake)
Travelling on my own apart from the dog.I love to chat and can usually find some kind French folk on whom to practise my lack of linguistic ability.GB vans i always make a bee line for i just love to hear where people have been and where they are going to.Thats one of the best parts of wandering. So Merlin (till end of year) old man,old dog come and say Hello.
