Norwich Union Direct who I have been with for years have refused to insure my new motorhome. Its a Eura Mobil 770.
The underwriters apparently have it marked as high risk and declined to cover it.

Can anyone recommend a good cheap insurer please?

Cheers
Karl

Why is this model considered high risk?Is it a large engine or are spares for it expensive,or is it particularly vulnerable to theft, don't quite understand or perhaps I'm missing something, could it be the age of the insured driver that is classified as ''high risk''.

Anyway I'm with the grey persons insurance company Saga, who were considerably cheaper than the rest for a good quality comprehensive cover, only problem is you have to 50 to qualify Sad

Hi Karl,
I have just taken out a policy with Safegaurd.... after ringing round for many quotes seems to me I found the best deal with them in terms of what they offered for the price.
Although Budget were a little cheaper they did not include the full breakdown cover in both UK & Europe, which Safeguard did. Safeguard also sounded very helpful on the phone, which I hope suggests that if I needed to make a claim they would prove to be just as helpful.

Karl I think the problem here, I may be wrong, is that Norwich Union Direct do not insurance motorhomes - they do cars.... yes they are the underwriters or at least NU is for motorhomes, but usually under the umbrella of companies like Comfort, Safeguard etc.

Why, simple reason, cars don't come with things like awnings, gas appliances, living accommodation etc., and as motorhome owners we need specific motorhome insurance.

I don't think it is because you are a high risk, but that they just don't do motorhomes. Like so many other motor insurance companies.

I did the wring around at the end of February and I think phoned 10 companies. I even phoned the NFU, as they had also been recommended, but yes they would quote, and a good quote, BUT, you do have to check and make them understand you are NOT asking for car insurance, and specify the different items that a motorhome entails. They then will go off and check with their underwriters and come back to you.

The good thing, for many people, about the NFU, is you can add EU breakdown by the week, month etc., at a reasonable cost, and so if you don't go their that long/often could work out an excellent option.

I ended up going with Comfort myself, whom I had been with before, and last year with Bakers of Cheltenham (altho now had a slight name change), but they increased the premium by over 50% - yes you read it right, and why when I queried, because they said they had quoted wrong last year, but whey were they then inline with everyone....I had had no claims at all, so was dumbfounded.....
