Has anyone ever tried this? There appear to be no reinforced points to fix to. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Hi,
Mine hadn't either. I made two bars out of mild steel strip wider than the whole rack. The strip was 50mm wide by about 5mm thick. The boss made a cover for the top one out of some material which was a good match to the interior for the top bar. I used these in place of the small plates supplied by Fiamma. The object was to spread the load over a wide area.
Pleased to say they have worked well.

Thanks Phil I was thinking along the same lines but using thicker ply, your method is much better, I shall give it a go
