Mecedes auto gearbox

I have a 1998 Hymer S520 A class Motorhome based on a Mercedes Benz 312D Sprinter chassis. It has a 5 cylinder 2.9 Litre diesel engine and 4 speed automatic transmission. My problem is that the dashboard display of the selected gear has stopped functioning and permanently displays P regardless of which gear has been selected. This does not affect the operation of the gearbox but has repercussions on items such as the reversing camera function. I assume that somewhere on the gearbox there is a sensor that sends information to the display.

Does anybody know where he sensor is and how to find it.
