We have had an alarm fitted to our Renault Miami which operates on remote control and always use this to lock the doors. We also had a remote control on the vehicle key which also locks all the doors without alarm.
I accidentally used the vehicle remote to lock up the other night and when the other half went out of the habitation door all the doors re-locked after about 15 seconds. Fortunately I was still sitting inside so was able to open the vehicle again but if both of us had gone out we would have been locked out. It appears that the habitation door has no effect unless you open one of the vehicle doors.
My solution was to remove the battery from the vehicle key.
This happened a couple at Longleat, except they were both locked out after going for a shower. They had set the alarm at night, doors only, left the van and did not take any keys with them. They could not get back in.
They borrowed my mobile to phone their alarm company and spent an hour in our van till the Green Flag man came. 15 seconds after he arrived they were back in via the cab door!
I heard a story where someone got locked out and they called a neighbour back home who got the spare key and pressed the remote down the phone, apparently the signal got transferred down the phone and the van unlocked - I think it must have been one with a sound on it though - worth practising before you go maybe!?
The habitition door on our van can lock itself if slammed too hard. It's happened on more than one ocassion.
We are now very careful if we are both sitting outside to make sure that the cab doors aren't locked, just in case!
Roger, my hubby, keeps on locking the keys in the garage. What happens is that he unlocks the garagedoor, opens it and while open turns the keys and takes them out, so then he gets out of the garage whatever he needs but puts the keys down and whithout picking the keys up, he closes the door and pushes the lock in . . My son has to clime through the little door underneath the bed into the garage again to find them.
One day he'll learn to pick up the spares and put them in a safe place in the motorhome.
Fifteen seconds to get in???? He must have been new to the job.I once worked as a service manager for VW/Audi and I was very often called out to break into peoples cars that have locked their keys in the car. After a few course's taken at vw and with local locksmiths I learnt how to break into ANY vehicle usually within ten seconds and more importantly without causing any damage whatsoever. This was all done with simple tools that everyone has and the most usufull one you can see lying along side many streets and near rubbish bins. Not saying any thing else but be warned get a alarm
