but here is the proper two way adaptor to do it safely
Many aires we use have the domestic type socket.
We carry a domestic adaptor giving 2 outlputs from one and have often unplugged an early bird to get joint leccy.
As you say, no one seems to mind.
it is simple they are breaking the law if they are re selling electricy at a profit. But as the act wasn't really aimed at campsites and marinas no one really cares.
On a marina every one has to use a inline meter, but the charge is "at cost" The disadvantage is that it does discourage putting the facility in due to the inability of re-couping the costs other than by the extra patronage that the facility brings.
Totally counter productive though when people dont want electricity but find they have to pay for it anyway!
Just to re-iterate the point I was trying to make...
I don't agree with paying for electricity on normal pitches whether you want it or not but at least you can actually use the electricity to get your moneys worth.
On a Caravan Club 'economy' pitch where electricity is not available the charge is less than a pitch with electricity so the price is fair.
With the 'simply six' option you are effectively being overcharged because its the same price as a pitch with electricity but there is no option to use it
....moving on to piggy backing, I'm sure my hook up arrangements will give the health and safety brigade palpitations.
4 vans are welcome to share electric with me. I have one 2 pin socket on the right angled elbow where the cable enters the van and then have a further 3 schuko sockets on the drum.
No lectures please on fully coiled drums bursting into flames please
I only use it like this on low amperage sites, at other times it is uncoiled....
Hello All
The simplest answer to all this business would have been to give the electric away for free and charge to use the post and plug supplying it.
This way we could have had electric or not without falling foul of the law.
But I guess that was to complicated for the CC.
regards Eddie
hi Sorry but I can't get my head around this, you are getting a pitch for the bargain price of £6 and your still complaining
So you dipped out on electric, but at £6 per night who cares. I suppose if they spent £10,000 and put electric in for all the pitches and charged £12 you would be happy.
Never heard of these £6 per night pitches but it sounds like the CC should be congratulated for a change.

Olley, if you read my first post properly you'll see I'm not complaining about the price itself, £6 is a great price, its the pricing policy that is the issue.

No, I wouldn't be happy because then I'd have electricity when I don't neccessarily want it. Better they spend the £10,000 fitting metered electricity and charge it only to people who want it.
The whole point IMO is that their pricing policy regarding electricity availability (or not) is unfair, not their pricing levels.
Piggy backing looks scary to me - why did I spend so much time looking for low watt electrical equipment and why do I worry about having the TV, kettle and toaster on at the same time, oh and the hair dryer on luxury days?

Won't the whole thing go pop?
Appologies for drifting off topic..
Yes, quite possibly on low amp hook-ups the circuit breaker will go 'pop', not dangerous but inconvenient.
If you are 'piggy backed' it's prudent to use as little leccy as possible, using it only for charging batteries and maybe watching TV.
