Any info on the Garmin 660Twould be welcomed.

I guess the 'T' would be similar to the 660FM which we just bought (£500 from Halford's but much cheaper online. We bought from Halfords beacuse it was a last minute decision). We're very pleased with it. Smartnav, with which Garmin shares mapping software (Navteq) and traffic guidance (TrafficMaster), is better in some ways, worse in others. The option to choose 'Truck' or 'Bus' as the mode of transport on the Garmin is a huge benefit when you're weaving through south London with a trailer behind, as we did last week!

I have the Garmin Street Pilot 2610 which I have just discovered has been discontinued but you can still buy it new on various websites like caraudiosecurity.com for £599.99 and GSD navigation.co.uk for £539.95
so I am thinking of selling it - maybe on E-Bay and upgrading it to one with the Traffic Master facility.

However I understand that there are problems with this (the TM) and wonder if anyone has any good experiences. Basically I would like a device that can pick up the latest Traffic problems and identify another route asap...........or am I just fantasising Confused

Also I have discovered over the last few years that you either love Tom Tom or hate it, how strange. No other make seems to produce this reaction. Personally I do like my Garmin despite a few probs in the beginning so will stick to that make but purely on the basis of being familiar with the way it works.

I've found TrafficMaster's input to be very good on both systems (Garmin and smartnav) that I use. smartnav gives more feedback on what's happening, saying 'smartnav has identified there is a quicker route. This avoids... (e.g. queing traffic etc). Press and hold your smartnav button or use the touchscreen if you want to use the new route.' Garmin just shows 'recalculating' at the top of the screen. Of course, it's impossible to know exactly how much we've benefitted (or otherwise) from the change in route, as we can't take both at the same time.

Its not infallible (I've been directed to a closed motorway juntion on the M6 near Birmingham when the police of highways agency had forgotten to tell TrafficMaster about planned roadworks), but generally I'd give TM 9/10.
