- Hi Maura, I'm in love with the Harmony van. Mine is an old 95 but in good enough condition for me to want to spend a bit on top of it's price, to ensure I keep it a while. This one is a Talbot 1.9 Diesel, the conversion in the back has 2 x 3pt belts. Unless the lad is able to do basic mechanics (or someone else can) then parts/maintenance is a bit of a 'faff' - the problem being a decent one is not old enough for classic status - and the local garages don't need the hassle hunting the parts. - However, I've got it sussed now, with a supplier and a good local garage who do new/and classics. I punched in 'talbot harmony' on google, and quite a few decent looking ones came up. The Talbot base is the cheapest, but ford/vw would be more up to date. - Still, the AA man said if I keep it maintained, it should go on forever! It will have to as it's my only vehicle. - Would really like a pollensa........sigh! -but no can do yet. Good luck, - Helena.
I've lost count of the times I have spotted a Harmony and thought - I like the look of that only to ring up dealer and its been sold or it doesn't have 3 point seat belts fitted.
My big son is good at a lot of things but mechanics aint one of them but then neither are we so a good garage would be a must. I admire your taste and thanks for tips about the Harmony - things a dealer probably would never mention eh?
Grizzly - as always you sum up the reasons for having a loo on board perfectly, much better to have your cake and eat whenever possible. I honestly don't think you have to rough it to be a genuine camper any more but I suppose there will always be the diehards who think that unless you are suffering a bit you aren't really true campers.
Takes all types and there's room out there for all of them
Cheers everyone,
Maura

Ah Grizzly and Maura, we never have cold, wet and dark times when in our rose tinted campervan!!! So we are self sufficient to get there and then use the facilities, the local pub (always got to be one of those), restaurants and the shops.
Darn it, we only have a plastic storage box to put the basics in like large Marmite etc etc, so no potty.
Just to add - a bit off topic but who cares, I thought the funniest campsite scene I have ever witnessed was when two brand spanking new matching big b****y Burstners turned up in convoy with very similar reg plates. Up went the aerials and dishes and the guys wanted to fill their water tanks. Out came the new hoses and off they went, but the hoses were too short, so they linked the two and off they went again. The adaptor on the end would not fit the onsite tap and after much scratching of heads and nether regions, they ferried water to their new babies by bucket!
