Camping Memling does not have a swimming pool and it does get rather full in the summer months. The closure of Camping St Michels and of the Aire de Service near to the railway station will make it even more busy, so advance booking will be necessary. It is about a 30 min walk into the centre of Brugge from the site or there is a bus stop just around the corner. There is an Aire de Service near to Ostend station, but this is normally full and you will be very lucky to get a place. If you are looking for a coastal location try the coast road south of Ostend. Just before you reach Middlekerke there are some WW2 fortifications which run for about a mile in length, there are plenty of parking spaces here, No services are available but parking is free and you are literally a matter of yards from the beach. The downside is that you are on a busy road and there is also a tram line running alongside the road. We have stayed here several times without any problems. A word of warning is that if you park on the stretch of road that runs off of the coast and into the town of Middlekerke you will be clamped. This parking is for cars only. On the plus side the beach is superb, the tram will take you directly to Ostend station where it is only a 20 min journey to Brugge. Hope you enjoy your trip, Brugge is a lovely place, if you need any more info just ask.

Growing old is mandatory - Growing up is optional
Right now I´m having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I´ve forgotten this before.

We were at Memling at Easter (tried to get in on Easter sunday but full up, Ok next day) They've spent some money on new pitches - especially those specifically for motorhomes, but they are smaller and the same price as a full size pitch.

As Brisey says, the old aire has been ripped up, but the new one should be open now (we couldn't get on, it was still under construction); it's in the entrance to the coach park on the right, it has marked bays (with hook-ups?) with a barrier on the entrance, but they want to charge 15 a night! Have a look & report back - it's in a good position near the station, and only 10 minutes walk into town. If you're desperate for a stopover, and can't get on the aire or campsite, there's a car park opposite with bays big enough for MH's (we stopped in there, a bit noisy); free. You can also park on the ring road alongisde the canal, but this would be daytime parking only really.
please report back, we need an update on the aire!

We returned from 7 weeks around France and Belgium on Friday. We stopped at the Membling site for the last 2 nights. Very clean and pitches very spacious even if the motorhome hard standing ones were a bit smaller. It was 22euros per night though, which we thought a bit steep after the French municipal sites! Motorhome, electricity and 2 adults. As an aside, we saw two German MHs on one pitch. Very cramped for outside eating etc. Don't know if they got it cheap, but in my opinion that takes money saving just a bit too far!
The Aire looks as if it is finished, but not yet opened. MHs were parked along side it and the cars were jostling for space. Very crowded even earlyish in the season.
Brugge is still a must see however you manage it.

Hi Sue. Where exactley where the vans and cars jostling. We love Brugge and have always started our trips with a couple of nights at the now defunct car park so any information is gratefully received.
Cheers Sid
