The solar panels were never intended to make me totally self sufficient. They are just to extend my independence which they are doing beyond my wildest expectations. The battery meter is now down to 98.2% and my busy time of day is just about over and I will be switching the Dish off between uses from now on. I would be very very suprised if this evenings charge doesn't kick it back up to 100%.

I think the combination of 880Ah (1000Ah if you read the specs) and the solar panels will give me 2 weeks before needing to top up with the generator but going on what has happened today with a slightly cloudy day I have a feeling it will be much better than that Smile

Oh and the ISO Cool they fit in the EuraMobils is excellent Very Happy

Cheers
Karl

Due to serious problems with my DataStorm. I had it switched on all day yesterday from 9am through to 10pm and hammered the batteries putting the dish up and down and scanning almost non stop for 4-5 hours.
See http://www.motorhomefacts.com/ftopicp-258193.html#258193

I took a look at the battery monitor this morning and guess what... 100%
I cannot believe that even with the heavy use yesterday it still got back to 100% with pre 9am sunlight Smile

I even had the domestic electric iron on yesterday which draws 242Amps Shocked Shocked Shocked

Never seen the meter go that high lol.

Its now 3pm here and the batteries are reading 99.7% after coming back after an hour for lunch and switching it back on about 1/2 an hour ago.

The 2 x 130Watt Kyocera's are definately winners in my books.
In my old van I would have been looking for a hookup yesterday.

These panels sound great! Any advice on where to get them fitted / cost of fitting?

I'm not confident enough yet to start tinkering with fixtures and fittings on the new home!

cheers,

Timotei

Olley, I had this from my previous van which had the domed style luton. I was going to cover this dome with the flexible solar panels and we worked out that it would require the 45amp charge controller.

The new van has a totally flat roof front to back and I wanted the option to add additional solar panels if necessary which it turns out it isn't. The TS-45 is a great bit of kit with optional digital display and a built in serial controller for logging. I am going to stick with it even though it is over specced for the job it is doing.

Hey Jim. Yesterday was a fantastic day, went out for aperitif with some french friends of mine and took along my new Dutch friends then went to a bar last night with the Dutch friends and got pretty drunk Smile thanks for a good time last weekend by the way. Look forward to seeing you again.

timotei: I fitted them myself with some assistance from some friends.
Its an easy enough job if you have the parts.
I used aluminium angle. 1 bit fitted to each side of the solar panel then another fitted to the roof of the van with sikaflex and a couple of self tappers. The ones on the roof were parallel and the solar panel ones slid nicely in between where they were then self tapped. The cables from both solar panels were then run to a junction box on the roof which was also sikaflexed and self tapped. The output of the junction box then went to a roof mount box with water tight gland and into the charge controller which was fitted in the wardrobe. Then the cables go straight down to the batteries.

If you are not happy doing this yourself MW Electrical can do it but I don't know what the charge will be you would need to speak to Musa. I have had them do loads of work for me and have been very happy with them.

Finally. I have now been a FULL WEEK!!! without hookup and the batteries are still on 98%+ Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Its the best money I have evere spent.
Been running my domestic hoover today and ironing the clothes i washed yesterday. As I get more confident with the system I am worrying less and less about the battery charge level and just getting on with using it Smile
