Hi,
Has anyone any experience of getting internet access on the move ? I would like to browse web pages to find sites, facilities etc whilst touring.

My phone has "WAP" what ever that is but I understand that it is expensive and I can not read the screen with text never mind webpages.

I am thinking of fitting a multimedia PC in the van to combine Television, Satellite, music, videos and play DVDs and I guess Internet. I have broadband at home but I guess this can not be remotely accessed.

Any Ideas, Info, Thoughts or What Have You please?

Hi

I have a laptop with a datacard attached. The net access is provided via a pas and go SIM card - £1 per day.

I have recently got a Nokia E61 on t mobile web n walk. this unit is very fast especially when in a 3g area. It costs me 27.50 a month with unlimited internet, 34.00 worth of calls and free calls on a weekend. This connects to my laptop and I'm very happy with it. My view is why pay 27.50 for a data card when you can have the phone as well? The only thing is t mobile block messenger and skype, but if you really need these then you can pay an extra 5.00 a month for full modem use.

Hi I built an old PC and it now runs all the Sat TV, Terrestial (when needed) DVD's 40 Gb of Mp3's etc plus, via internet all other stuff.. Smile

It sits in a cupboard and drives a standard, 19" oldish Flatscreen,,

Internet access can be found by attaching a wireless 'dongle' on a USB lead from PC.. (as long as your somewhere where a network is present)

Agree not as space saving or neat as a laptop, but works well and isnt very nickable as big and hidden, and isn't very valuable..

2 Warfdales and an Amp give ample sounds ... Smile

Total power is about 400-600 I watts I guess tho.. so on the move, batteries and an inveter needed unless on hookup...

John

Tribute 650,

Over what geographical area do you NEED internet access?

Have you read the information on MHF already? OI don't think you will get anything new on this topic).

How much are you prepared to pay for internet access?

Hi just some more info on E61

Even one year ago, the connectivity options on the E61 would have seemed fantastic. Now, when you rattle through the list (Quad band GSM, GPRS and 3G data, Bluetooth, infrared, Wi-Fi, and the standard Nokia pop-port) you’re nodding your head saying, good, it’s all there. And that says more about the expectations we have in a smartphone. Lets face it, that’s a lot of electronics to pack into what is a shirt pocket sized computer. Think how many cards in your PC that would need.

What’s important though, is how smoothly they all work with each other. Whenever you ask for an Internet connection, you get a menu popping up all the available connections (assuming you haven’t told the web browser to always use Wi-Fi). There shouldn’t be any need to fiddle with the settings for your mobile network, as the internal database of settings should recognise your SIM card and present you the correct options. With Wi-Fi, the available networks are shown, and you simply select the one you want (and entering the WEP key is so much easier with this keyboard than on the N91!)

As you can see wi fi is no problem when available Phone will connect thro any open access point (or encrypted if you have the key)

One of the reasons I use this is that I have no internet access at home (no phone line or cable) and I find this a superb option.

Hi DABurleigh,

Forgive me but I am new to the site (just registered today) but I did various searches on the topic but pulled up anything from "breathable car covers" to "Air jacks" so I thought it easier just to ask!

I prefer PAY as you GO as I am already locked into a contract for my mobile with O2 so do not want another just for internet. I am looking for something that will plug into a computer and be as cheap an quick as pos.

Thanks all for your replies and please keep them comming, specific bits of kit and plans, deals with which ever providers would be appreciated as I have not the foggiest where to start!

Must admit I have the same problem with the "search" function. No matter what I type in I get loads of links none of which relate to my query. Maybe something I am doing wrong? Embarassed

Sorry for going off topic. Very Happy
