Better handle for winding up roll-out awning? Forums

My handle is just a straight pole with a hook on the end of it, but arthritis in my hands and a problem with my arms makes it really difficult to use - especially when winding back in as it takes more strength than winding it out. (Hope that makes sense!)

Does anyone know if there's some sort of handle that is easier to use, one that isn't just a straight pole? I can picture in my head what might be better, but can't think of how to describe it! Confused

A pole with a 'U' shape in it , if you know what I mean?

Or any ideas how I can adapt the pole I've got??

I think you can buy electric motors to fix on the awning, that is real class!

My pole is jointed twice at the end, making a handle. I'll post a pic up if you think that is helpful.

Just a thought....... how about using one of those battery operated drills with the straight pole in the chuck. Not sure if it would be powerfull enough but worth a try. Anyone tried this?

Mine is the same as Pussers, think I would have a look round the accessory shops and see if you cant pick one up. If you cant try and find a local aluminium fabricator who could alter yours or make you a fresh one, after you have expalined what you can and cant manage, and of course is comfortable for you to use

I know I've mentioned here before that I'm not technical/mechanically minded, but I've got to admit my complete ignorance now!

After reading Pusser's post above I suddenly realised what the knobbly bits at the end of my pole are for!! Embarassed

(And my hands/arms didn't half hurt after I'd spent ages slowly winding the blasted thing up last week! Rolling Eyes

)
