Hello

Firstly well done to you for not signing the document. I will quantify this. When my bathroom was supplied and fitted by a national chain, the shower tray was cracked. The installer (contractor to the national retailer) spooted this and so ordered another. The second shower tray was then installed. This one cracked "in service". The retailer and the shower tray manufactuer looked at the shower tray and confirm the crack. The manufacturer of the shower tray stated it was incorrect installation. The cracked shower tray was removed along with some tiles etc. A third shower tray was installed and hey presto - no crack - but it was installed "on a slant" and as such water would not drain freely. After a lot of arguing, we reached a stalemate. The retailer argued that I (meaning me) had signed a certificate/statement of satisfaction. My counter attack was that "I was satisfied with the work AT THAT TIME when I signed the document". In the end, and eight months after installation had started, I got what I wanted. My point is, and I fully support you Grumpyman, do not sign such as document.

If I were in your position, I would contact the National Caravan Council - it is not just caravans they deal with but motorhomes too.

Russell

Hi again, chances are you are more qualified to offer any argument than these people who are taking the mick with your van.Who is doing the so called repair ? or should I say not doing Wink Are they caravan / m/home repair people or independent garage? Ask the insurace if you can get an independent engineer to look at it (at there expence)Say you have no confidece in the repair and see if they will send it to another reair shop.I cannot see what the problem is as the only things are roof vents to seal to the roof ?or is it the roof it'self which can only need sealing to the gutter.Got any pics?or was van a write off (much worse than descrbed)I know it is no comfort to you but 2 of us turned my van from an ambulance into a m/h working 3 to 4 days (10 till 4)a week in less than 12 weeks (see avatar)this inc everything inside and out, first week ripping out and removing stickers and glue with another week running around picking up parts.

Thanks for all the advice will try and answer some of the questions and comments.
They state that they think the van may be leaking from some point on the roof not the skylights and to find this is very difficult examining from the top of the roof and so if they remove the interior lining they may be able to see where it is coming from. The vehicle has had a new roof. I am going to take up the advice of speaking to the Caravan Club. I do not have any photos. I am told by one of the staff at the garage that the bill now stands at around £9000. My personal believe is that the company took on the job when they are not capable of completing the work to a proper standard.
Also I keep going back to my original point they have your vehicle for 3 weeks but probably only work on it for 3 days.I commended a Blog on this and will probably complete and publish you will probably not believe some of it but just to give you a taste found van parked with no windscreen 15 yards from a Skip fire belching out smoke and ash and there is loads more. Insurance company priceless. Twisted Evil

Having taken advice from this Forum have now taken bull by the horns so to speak. Told Workshop I want the vehicle back in the next 2 days considering they have had it for over 3 weeks. Arranged for Independent Company to examine work and told Insurance company they would be paying the bill (£100 + VAT) which they agreed to.
Independent company passed the comment before even examining vehicle they have had more than enough time to get this right. Lets see how it goes.

Collected Van this afternoon with two jobs noted as not even been done and one an interior light which did not work now coming on as you drive down the road. Spotted what appears to be the start of damp on some surfaces. Climbed up to have a look at the roof what a pigs ear.Independent Engineer arranging to come left me with another comment I would have some concerns about any attempts to repair a Motorhome Roof. Lets see how it goes.

Booked an Engineer to examine the vehicle who is recommeded by the Caravan Club. Having examined the vehicle he states it should never have been repaired or if so should have gone to Motorhome Specialists. He states the work is very poor in fact that is an understatement of his comments and the van is full of damp.He will be advising the Insurance company consider paying up. As it is now beyond repair. He further states Insurance Companies have got to be made to learn that Motorhomes are not simply a commercial vehicle.

Well a all to familiar problem Insurance Company wanted Independent Report before they would even comment. First Customer Liaison dealing gone long term sick. Second one Part time working but also took extra day off. Third one dealing who specifically asked for the report to be sent to them 2 weeks Holiday starting today.Did manage to speak to the one male left running the office. Wink Evil or Very Mad

I find all this very hard to belive it is not a joke, how can they expect someone to spend so many hours trying to sort out their MH. I cannot belive that the bill was £9k either and as it now looks like the van is a write off who will pay for it next year but us schmucks with a hicked premium. Worlds gone mad, if the insurance firms employed people that we of a higher educated level then maybe it would be better service, you pay peanuts you get monkeys thats for sure Exclamation

Hope you get it sorted and your stress doesnt go throug the roof at leat there is a crack in it somewhere Confused
