Hi, I'll be full timing it by the end of the year and need to choose my camper but keep getting conflicting advise on what I can drive on a normal car license. I think I need to take another test to drive anything over 3500kg (C1 entitlement) as I passed my car test in 2002 (I'm 29). Also, if I chose an RV over 7500kg I think I need to pass an HGV test! (D?entitilement?)
Is this the case as so many people say it doesn't apply to campers but I think it is the case for anyone who passed the car test after 1997?

Sorry for such a boring question but I appreciate any advice!

Also, am I being naive thinking the size of an RV would seriously restrict the amount of wild camping I can do?

What a fantastic site by the way!

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks, looks like I have to do another test then! Surely this means next generation will not be buying any large motorhomes. Sad

Not at all !

Thanks to questions such as yours the future owners of large motorhomes and RVs will be forewarned of the need to take extra driving instruction.

They will then qualify by the appropriate test to drive the maximum authorised vehicle weight which they need.

There are members here who have taken this path, some in a hurry after dealers have been 'economical with the truth'.

Good luck with your choice of course and instructor - may you qualify at your first attempt, but if you don't then qualify at the second.

Hi as their is very little difference in the 3.5-7.5 (C1 licence) and the over 7.5 (C licence) test it makes more sense to do the over 7.5 tonne.
