Hi

I wonder if a price war is looming.

We currently have T-mobile with their £1 per day pay as you go unlimited downloads.

Vodafone have come in with the same offer - available as pay and go or contract. There are other offers too.

Orange offer free browsing during certain times of the day.

The above three examples involve using a mobile phone for net access.

With a datacard, the prices are still as high as they were, but no doubt if a price war starts.....my loyalty is in my pocket!

Russell

Hi Russell,

With an unlocked datacard, would they know whether we were using a datacard or a mobile phone?

Not being overly techie Confused Laughing , that might seem like a silly question to others.

Hi Russ

That's very interesting, Vodafone has better coverage than tMobile and I see no reason why the sim wouldn't work in a data card with the correct information.

I have a Vodafone contract and they have told me that I can use my phone as a modem for web surfing etc for £1 per day, no limit to downloads (fair usage policy obviously...), and I have now used it a few times and it seems to be great. They also said that I should call them before going to France and they will tell me how to connect without incurring huge charges.... Now that sounds like great customer service.

Hi Keith.. now that does sound attractive.. when you get details of the charges will you let us know ?
We will be looking for an alternative to TMobile for abroad.. this may be the answer Smile

Hi

Being the guinea pig that I am, I still have my old Vodafone SIM from the cancelled/expired contract. I shall stick a small top up on it and try it in the Datacard.

Expect a load of swearing and cursing whilst I get it all to work. LOL

Yep, I'll let you know and also let you know about the billing too Laughing Laughing Whatever you do, do NOT use the Nokia suite to connect to the internet, because it doesn't..........
I tried for hours, the software detected the phone via Bluetooth but when you click "connect" it says "no modem" and quits???????
Vodafone service said they couldn't help with that question so I used the software that came with the Bluetooth dongle (IVT) and it hooks up instantly......

I got excited when I read this, but I've just looked at the Vodaphone web site. I've been averaging 194Mb a day this month on my landline. There's a 15Mb a day limit on the £1 a day service and then it's £2 a Mb. That's £360 a day Sad . Or have I missed something?
