Hi to everyone,
tamartravellers here. Well we have managed to venture out in our hymer 660 for the past two week ends, and we are slowly coming to grips with our home on wheels. One thing that we have both agreed on this wet week end is that we are in need of an awning or, we have been told about a "safari room". Could anyone enlighten us as to where we can locate these items. I have been on the Hymer web site but have not had any luck. Obviously we would like to think that we could possibly get one second hand. Has anyone any ideas or does anyone have an awning collecting dust in their garage that they would like to sell and would it fit our bus.
Many thanks, any ideas would be gratefully recieved.
Also, we are really enjoying this new life and would like to catch up with people who have this same interest, are there any rallies or meets in the not too distant future around the west country

Personally I would not have a Safari Room unless you intend to stay in one place for a week or more. I have had 2 in the past and they take quite a while to put up and take up loads of room in your van. You also spend as much time as a caravanner in setting up Laughing Laughing
We had an Omnistor 4 meter on our Hymer S660 and it was brilliant. Try eBay for used ones, they do come up from time to time, such as

Funny I was just about to post along the same lines so sorry if I jump onto your post but it may answer your question also?! Wink

We decided we didn't need an awning on the new Van but did have one on the old MH. Now we realise just how much we miss it and are looking into which way to go and the most cost effective route.

There are the obvious choices ie fiamma roll out units like the F45i etc and the same from onmistor but at @Ģ400+ mrs J does not fancy forking out that much but we have seen the caravan specific models like the

Safari rooms are OK if your m/h stays on site for a few days, however, each time you move the m/h you have to dismantle the whole thing. If you're towing a car that's fine, but for most m/h'ers. we go out each day with touring the area, a driveaway awning is usually preferred.

I too have a Hymer and have just bought a Dorema Highlander stand alone awning for it. Big advantage is that you can put your bits and pieces in the awning when you go out for the day. It has a 'tunnel' attached to the back wall, the theory being that you can attach that to the rain gutter on the motorhome and walk directly from the van into the awning only problem I have encountered is that the gutter on the Hymer is so high that you need stepladders to put the clip onto the gutter. However, it is only a couple of feet away from the door so I don't find it a problem. Great when the dogs are wet, they can be dried off in the awning before they get back into the van. Suggest look at Ebay have seen some advertised for around Ģ150-Ģ200.
