Hi all I am looking for some advice.
Due to illness I have been given a blue Disable badge, and I know I can use it to park in my car, but most of the time I am in my motorhome and in a lot of car parks I take up two spaces and wondered if any one knows if this is o k ? or will I get a ticket? thanks Andrew and Steph.

The badge is issued to you not the vehicle. The norm nowadays is that you only get free parking if you are vehicle excise excempt. You will only get it if your condition is such that you are immobile without a vehicle.
This ruling also includes the special bays set aside for badge holders.
It may be better if you find a roadside parking spot, and as long as you do not cause an obstruction use your time clock and remain there for 3 hours.

Hi Andrew. Sorry to hear of your illness. It is a nightmare. On street parking with marked bays you will probably get a ticket. Car parks and Supermarket carparks it seems to depend on who runs the parking. If its a commercial firm they will most likely ticket you, I have not had problems but many on the BB have.
On the French Autoroutes you get a discount but even if your badge is showing you have to ask for the concession. Typically on the M6 toll you don't get a discount unless you are on "mobility allowance"
Cheers Sid

It is also free for Blue Badge holders on the Severn Bridges to Wales, though it is not advertised.
Just hand the badge to the cashier who fills in a form for your signature.

I have been disabled for 7 + Years and allways get the Tax Exemption on my Campervan rather than Car ( my Small Car is cheaper to Tax too ) I show my Blue Badge when crossing Dartford or Seven and go Free , I still have not figured out French Toll Roads ...I Show my Badge and some attendants look like they recalculate my Toll ( i suspect 20% less ) other ignore it .
For Wild Camping its handy and BY LAW no one can clamp a disabled vehicle , Or IF i have taken Medication Police will give me 8 hours till i feel fit enough to move on .
I know that IF i buy a New Camper and have a few Disabled Items put on ( Wheelchair Hoist Etc ) then its VAT Exempt ..and 17.5% off a £40,000 Vehicle is worth having !
Last year i bought a Quad bike to tow along i a Trailer ... THAT was VAT Exempt to me ( tough i had to get the correct forms from my Disabled Centre as the Company had never seen them before )
I Just WISH .. we had a 2 tier system for disabled folk ... Blue Badge for the 'walking wounded like me " and a RED Priority Badge for severe disabled who cannot walk at all and often need wider parking spaces nearer shop doors etc .Those folk really need that extra bit of help !

That's an interesting idea. A little while ago, I took issue with a couple who had used the blue badge to park next to the entrance at Tesco, and both were walking smartly and ably to the door. When I suggested that they both looked able-bodied to me, they informed me that the bloke had had heart surgery some weeks before.
Did they need the badge to get close to the entrance? It didn't look like it to me, but then what can you do when they have been given the BB? Your red badge idea would / should keep those valuable spaces clear for the people who really need them.

The original question as I read it was about using a Blue Badge when parking a motorhome and taking up two parking spaces.

I personally only park in two bays in supermarket car parks. They want my custom so they get me and my vehicle in two of their bays!
I would not be able to get into most other car parks my R/V being over 27' in length. I do use the badge to park on the road where appropriate and where I am not causing an obstruction by doing so. Inconsiderate BB holders make it bad for the rest of us!
I am very interested in Sid T's comment re concessions for BB holders on French Autoroutes. Can anyone enlighten me? We spent 92 euros in August getting from Calais to Bordeaux this August.
