went to glossop caravans to pick up my new battery yesterday so got 2 in parrellel now running of the lunar caravan battery charger we put in van when i made it

also to add a boost we got the genny 8.3amp output for the 12v charge when i use it

also we have bought 1 of the battery maintance chargers as advised on here last week from aldi

everything seams good for now both keeping charge and maintance charger seams to be ok

a quick question ???? can i use the lunar battery charger as well as the maintance charger or vis versa with the genny 8.3amp charger

in other works can i use 2 chargers at same time or is it not good to do

Hi Tuftey,

In theory it should be ok but I guess it depends on how you wired it up. We have both Solar and battery charger working at the same time so that would be no different. Presumably you would either connect the 12 volt charger from the genny either through a 12 volt bus bar/fuse block or via crocodile clips direct onto the battery

good luck with your project

Pete

The total charging current in Amps should be less than the battery capacity in Amp-Hours divided by 5 (to maximise life). Other than that, you should be OK. I haven't yet come across a problem with back-to-back chargers.

If an "intelligent," "multistage" or "maintenance" charger was coupled to a battery at the same time as any other charger, wouldn't the "intelligent" charger detect the high voltage across the terminals caused by the other charger and simply switch off or onto "float" and thus make no contribution to the total charge?

i guess not because they both push volts/amps to the same area and dont recognise other items charging a battery so no fault seen because its looking at battery not the charger

I used to think that, Ken, until I had a chat with Sterling about their B2B potentially interfering with my Victron mains charger which also charged the vehicle battery. I was re-calibrated, though not necessarily enlightened Smile

Think of a single charger split in half (in parallel). Best to mull these things after a couple of gins I find, then you can get a spurious insight and go to sleep happy Smile
