Riveted not by the cycling which is superb but by the new sport that ITV4 has now got me into.....
.. ..Motorhome spotting...
Has anyone noticed the amount parked on the hairpins on the ascent to Tignes Sunday. You watch tonight sorry if you don't have ITV4 but they are finishing in Val Disere it is great!!
You might have seen me last week!!!! On our 1st day over the channel last monday we decided to go to Ghent to see the end of day festival, by the time we arrived it was all over but I ended up taking a wrong turn at the expo centre and landed right in the paddock there with all the bikes and TV cameras etc. After some strange looks headed back north to safety of Brugge!!!.

LOL - we sit there, saying things like "I wouldn't have parked it there" and such. I look for parking spots not taken, but there aren't many
We would have caught the backward leg up the right hand side of France, except we have pre-planned stuff to do in Italy, and the timing's just too tight
Next year, though

We watched again a couple of nights ago and the commentators were saying the roads get closed the evening before the event so you have to overnight or walk up the next day!!
This explained not only the motorhomes but also the tents everywhere, shame it has been tarred with the doping brush again though.
Absolutely amazing the number of motorhomes on the route - we did just miss the race route a couple of years ago - they had gone through an hour or so before. But I did get to watch when it was last in the UK (not this year) at South Harting; a blur of bikes and it's gone!
It's a great shame that cycling hasn't sorted itself out drugs-wise. Perhaps now they'll finally get the message. There'll be so few riders left on Sunday, it's certainly devalued the whole thing.
Anyway, I reckon we could put a team together in time to do the final leg on Sunday into Paris, the organisers need numbers due to the withdrawals. Is anybody game? A few lycra suits with suitably padded gussets, all sponsored by MHF (not the gussets, the shirts) - what a brilliant marketing opportunity for Nuke.......

Can you imagine parkin so close to an event here in the UK?
"Sorry sir you cant park here"
And yet the whole thing seemed to go OK

Moderately interested in the Tour, very interested in the motorhomes. Just been reading a thread from an Irish member (sorry can't remember his/her name) who wanted to know where to go to see lots of MHs before buying. Perhaps the Tour route is the place.
Hope they get the doping thing sorted before all the professional riders are banned - I don't think I could do one circuit of the Champs Elyese (?) never mind eight. Also don't think the world is ready for me in lycra yet.
