Going to France next week. Nothing booked and plan to turn right at Calais and explore the coast of Normandy, Brittany and then down west coast towards la Rochelle. That's the extent of my planning. I'm looking for any suggestions of sites/aires on coast near or next to the sea to give me targets to aim for. Would like to spend at least 5 days in one place. Any suggestions please of places people have enjoyed. I do like a beach!

If you plan on going further down the coast then Bordeaux is well worth a visit ( see Camping Beau Soleil in the database) as is Arcachon ( Camping Club Arcachon site) , Dune de Pyla ( see database for aire there) and the Landes area in general. Excellent flat cycling and first rate beaches.

There is a safe and welcoming overnight parking area in La Rochelle ( see database- Parking Relais Jean Moulin )

Inland Normandy has the excellent Camping St Nicolas in Le Bec Hellouin ( see database)

Edit: People will be beginning to think I'm related to the author but an excellent source of ideas for places to stay and visit in both Normandy and Brittany can be found in Susie Kelly's book A Perfect Circle ( Bantam books £7.99). She and husband go off in a MH round the outside of France and she writes so well about it.

We have not long come back from similar trip Kevin see http://rebbyvid.moonfruit.com/ not fully updated but will give you some idea.We did intend to go to La Rochelle with changed our minds and want back up the Brittany coast.Porchinet/La Baule is a lovely place to stay as is most of the coast in that area.Hope you get better weather than us

There is a site on the beach at Du Letty, Benodet. Its close enogh to walk into town and the facilities are good.

We didn't get as far south as you are planning to go, but there might be a few suggestions in there.

Agree about the Ile De Re but if it's sand you're after the Dune du Pilat might fit the bill Smile

hi batch we just came back from 2weeks at camping des menhirs in carnac south brittany 500mtrs to sandy beach large site for campers statics and tourers great pitches
