Insurance...Is it only me that HATES it?

It's renewal time for us and everytime it comes around I can't help but sink into a deep depression.

Why is it so complicated? Why are ALL the quotes for different things? Why all the small print?

I've had enough, so I want to develop a document (in excel initially as it's what I know best) which will list all the things that we need to check when comparing quotes.

It's the ONLY way I can see to make sure that we minimise the risk of favouring one quote but miss the fact that XYZ is not covered as we wish it to be!

It will also serve as a repository for the answers to all the questions that they ask us! (That will save us having to think 'on the fly' when they ask question 78 of 136 on their computer!)

I want your help!

I want you all to help me compile this list and when it is done I will publish it on here so that everyone can download it and use it when their renewal is due.

What sort of things? Well, for starters how about:

Is breakdown cover included?
Windscreen cover?
Contents?
What excesses?
Legal protection?
Courtesy vehicle?
Club discount?
Mileage discount?
Security device discount?
Monthly payment option?
Tax disc loss?
Foreign use?
Medical expenses?
Limited mileage?

Different things are important to different people so we need to include ALL aspects that we can.

PLEASE reply with YOUR considerations and I will include them. This will only work if we all contribute so please help me to develop this idea.

If you have any comments about the sections (e.g. "Can we have Security Device discount AND tracker discount as some companies offer both?") then please put them forward.

Can a mod make this sticky so that we can all work together and help each other?

Bryan.

Hello,

I was only thinking the same thing last night whilst reading another topic regarding insurance and quotes.

What about

Heavy goods recovery?
Tow vehicle Recovery?

Am I on the right lines?

After my daughter's recent experience; does breakdown also include recovery after an accident? (Safeguard has assured me that theirs does-Fleet Policy)

Absolutely, Trev. Thanks for the reply.

Do you mean Recovery of large RV's (over 7.5 tonnes)?
I take it you mean recovery of a towed car?

Keep 'em coming everyone, it only works with team participation

Hello Bryan,

Yes but more anything over 3500kG's as this is callsed by Breakdown companies like AA Adac RAC as Light Truck Recovery. Anything over 7500kG's is HGV.

Yes I did mean a Towed Vehicle.

Trev

Okay, we'll include over 3.5t and over 7.5 tonne Smile

Anyone else have anything we should add?

Other ones - and should be at the head of the list :

Do you cover my postcode?
Do you cover motorhomes to this value?

Found several insurers who asked 630 questions (well it felt like it) only to say "oh no, we can't cover you" when we got to either of the above.

What a waste of time. Grrrr
