Hi All

Here's what i devised last year for a trip to spain we went on
This is manly to put off opportunist thiefs, which given the chance will be in your van
I use a length of plastic covered wired rope with eyelets on each end to which i thread through both passenger and drivers door handles and put a pad-lock through both eyelets
this acts as a deterant to a would be thief glancing through the cab window

This by the way is to my Fiat Ducato cab

Don't use this when sleeping in van, in case of fire, if you know what i mean..

Roverman...

We have used a length of welded steel chain for the same purpose for a number of years.
We do use it at night and prefer not to use screen covers in order that it remain visible to anyone 'casing the joint'.

Hi.

We use a steel wire between the two door handles but make it padlock together over the horn push so if the door does get pulled open more than a couple of inches the horn sounds.

A good use for that horn push at last. It's so big I keep pushing it by mistake when I'm driving, and when I'm sitting in the driving seat swivelled at 90 degrees on camp sites Laughing.

I think quite a few people would buy this cable thing if it was commercially available, possibly in preference to the bar jobby. Thus, if anyone would make one that is of quality wire rope, sheathed in a bright yellow plastic tube with a decent lock and the equivalent of a commercial profit added on then I will buy it. May end up a cottage industry although it would have to be a bit longer to fit cottages. Shocked

There is a strap sold by Amazing Outdoors which fits between the two front doors of the cab and stops the cab doors being opened from the outside.

You can get plastic coated cables of various lengths from B&Q they have eyes either end but I have not seen yellow ones. I like others thread them through the door handles and steering wheel and padlock in the middle when not in the van.

I do like the idea of this in principal, however do not like the idea of it being padlocked together. This seems like something that could cause a delay in getting out in an emergency.

Anyone devised a secure, simple, quick release means of fastening the ends together?

Regards,
Steve

Rather than closing/locking the padlock, why not leave it open.....it will still hold both ends of the the cable together but would be easily removed in an emergency
